Kelsey | 4 comments This is the view of ethnicity I plan to use when choosing my book:

"Race refers to a person's physical characteristics, such as bone structure and skin, hair, or eye color. Ethnicity, however, refers to cultural factors, including nationality, regional culture, ancestry, and language"

With that in mind, I think I'll be reading The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden.

Megan | 361 comments I'm going to go with Imperial Woman for this.
I figure I'm Irish/Norwegian/English and the book is about the last Empress of China, so it seems to count.

Brianna Flores (disneywitch22) | 34 comments I'm going with Soundless by Richelle Mead

Megan | 361 comments "Imperial Woman" bored me to death so I ended up reading The Heretic Queen. It was about an Egyptian queen.

message 55: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rachelbenoit) I just finished reading Ruby by Cynthia Bond for this prompt since it was an Oprah pick last year. I really liked it! There are some very graphic scenes, but the writing is fantastic.

message 56: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 6 comments I plan to read The Case of the Missing Servant for this. My brother recommended it, it's a detective story, and the first in a series if you need a book for that prompt.

message 57: by Janet Flora (new)

Janet Flora Corso (janflora) | 3 comments I just finished EVERY FALLING STAR a memoir about a teen who got out of North Korea. recommended for anyone curious about that country

Carrie | 71 comments I'm gonna read Moloka'i

Carla (hidingmyheart) | 19 comments Born a Crime was excellent. Funny and poignant and inspiring. I loved it.

Chinook | 731 comments I ended up slotting Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? in for this prompt - I'm neither American or of Indian descent. Half my reading at minimum probably fits into this prompt, so this was just the first option that didn't fit anywhere else.

Cornerofmadness | 808 comments I chose A Cold Day For Murder (Kate Shugak, #1) by Dana Stabenow A Cold Day for Murder by Dana Stabenow. The main character, Kate Shugak, is Native American and this one is heavily influenced by reservation life. That said, even though this is the first in the mystery series, it's not the best in the series. It's actually a little slow.

I loved that book, Cindy. I need to read the sequel.

message 65: by Erika (new)

Erika wickwire For this one I read The Girl from Everywhere, I didnt know she was going to be a different ethnicity but turns out the character is half chinese.

message 66: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (knitsheila) I read Escape from Camp 14 One Man's Remarkable Odyssey from North Korea to Freedom in the West by Blaine Harden

message 67: by Kristin (new)

Kristin Dillon | 5 comments Would The Help count? The story follows multiple main characters, but one of them is Caucasian. The others are African American.

message 68: by Chinook (new)

Chinook | 731 comments For me, I'd say no because the white character is the main one IMO.

I don't think so.

I read this a few weeks ago and all I can say is, good luck. I finished it but it was tough to make myself keep trucking through.

Anshita (_book_freak) | 268 comments I decided to read The Stepford Wives by Ira Levin. I wanted to read this book ever since I learned that this book is very similar to Gone Girl (One of my favorites!) I initially have chosen to read Fasting, Feasting but realized that it doesn't fit this prompt.
