Rachel Thijssen (rachelthijssen) | 18 comments Hey!

I'm participating in a scifi writing contest and I would love to get some reviews for my novel! You can read the first 8 chapters here: https://www.inkitt.com/stories/scifi/...

If you're interesting in reading the rest and reviewing it (on the Inkitt site), you can PM me, comment below or mail me at [email protected]

Here's a summary:

Sixteen-year old Dawn Bellatoris’s father disappeared years ago from the Great Library, leaving Dawn and her mother alone to fend for themselves. When Dawn becomes the Librarian’s new apprentice, she uses the opportunity to search for clues.

Upon entering a forbidden part of the Library, she accidentally activates a machine that injects her with a serum. Dawn is amazed to discover that flames bend to her will because of the serum, but after setting multiple things on fire, this new power terrifies her.

But Dawn is not the only human with otherworldly abilities. Genetically enhanced soldiers invade Dawn’s home, hungry for revenge after a centuries-old betrayal. Their plan: obliterate the city of Soteria and enslave its citizens.

Dawn’s father is no longer top priority. Soteria is in danger and, with her new abilities, Dawn is the only one who can save her home.

Because Soteria isn't the first city to be sacked by the supersoldiers. They have raided many a city before and have created a society thriving on slavery.

If Dawn doesn't stop the soldiers, they will burn Soteria and enslave the ones she loves.

WHEN SET ABLAZE is a 70.000 word YA scifi with elements of ancient Greek and Roman mythology.

Thanks!

-Rachel
