Any other thoughts/observations you'd like to discuss? What did you think of this story?

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 694 comments I'd just like to share this little bit about the shift in Sebastian's outlook and feelings. The first passage is from Why Mermaids Sing (book 3), the book where Sebastian discovered that Kat was Hendon's natural daughter and thus believed she was his half-sister. The second passage is from When Falcons Fall and is about Hero.

WMS: "...Sebastian suddenly found himself with nothing to distract him from the brutal reality of a future without Kat as his love, without Kat in his life. He felt a hideous emptiness yawn deep within his being, and for one blinding moment, the agony was so raw that it took his breath."

WFF: " Once, he had faced danger with a recklessness born of a careless attitude toward living. But those days were in the past. And as he held her close, felt her heart pounding against his, heard the keening of her breath, he knew a deep and all-consuming thankfulness that he was here, now, alive and in this woman's arms."

And, of course, in the book where Hero gives birth, Sebastian feels he can't even imagine his life without Hero in it.

Outside of that, I did kind of miss Lovejoy and Gibson, even Jarvis, lol. I'll be glad for the return to London in the next book (I'm assuming).

Thanks for sharing that, Veronica. I remember both but that last one is imprinted strongly. It was lovely.

I liked this story, especially as I didn't get the sense that Sebastian was in imminent danger throughout. It was a gnarly mystery and I liked the view of country living in that era.

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 694 comments Ha, that's true, Jonetta, and I didn't even realize it. I think this is the first book where no one attacks Sebastian directly. No cuts, bruises, or black eyes this time!

True, although I do wonder if he wasn't the intended target of the shooting and not Pierce.

Jasmine | 40 comments I missed Gibson too, though I liked the change of pace of having it not be in London. I liked the character of Archie and hope he'll show up again. I sort of wished that Jude had not been in the murderer because that family had suffered so much already.

I found it pretty interesting that even when Sebastian was reminded of the whole problem of a potential romantic relationship between siblings, Kat's name wasn't mentioned. ;)

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 694 comments Yeah, that family is dealing with Jamie's death and now Jude's...and both in part due to Sebastian. The author sure was hard on that poor family.

And it's always nice when Kat's name isn't mentioned. :-)
