Tasha Crime and Punishment is a great book. My son is actually interested but I'm not sure how that will go over with a 14yo.

message 8: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Dostoyevsky can certainly be a challemge even tedious at times but kudos to him for at least considering it. Good luck. My 14 yr old self would not have done it

Janice (jamasc) | 59921 comments You've got a good start. Judging from the answers you've already done, the rest are bound to be quite entertaining.

message 10: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I am looking forward to the rest of your answers Travis. You've already given me a laugh with the first few. lol.

message 11: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I find it very hard to believe that you've never been involved in an accident. Especially living on a farm! What about when the cow kicked you? Or did I just make that up? I'd class that as an accident.

message 12: by Tasha (new)

Tasha He probably doesn't count those things as accidents, probably considers it just stuff that happens on a farm. That' my guess.

message 13: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments With accidents I guess O just think automobile accidents or similar. Never been involvednin anything substantial enough to stick in my memory

message 14: by Janice, Moderator (last edited Nov 22, 2016 07:39PM) (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59921 comments Count the cow. ROFL!

That reminds me of the impromptu rodeo one of our cows and I engaged in. She escaped, I chased, I lost my balance and did a face plant, just missing a cow patty.

message 15: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Actually I remembered this time my buddy and I went to this party. We had to ride our snowmobiles home 15 miles mostly across fielda but we had 1/2 mile of road through a village because we needed the bridge to cross the river then use the trail system for 2 miles. We were drunk vut our plan was just to take it slow. We headed through the village doing 10 mph when sonegow my buddies ski caught throwing him into a mailbox. Quick i tun up to pull sled back so he could go before any one saw us I run bacl to my sled get up to probably 5 mph as I only drove about 15 feet when my ski caught and I hit the same damn mailbox. No damage was done to mailbox or sled I think post was made of steel. Rest of trip was uneventful

message 16: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments lol. That would make a great slapstick comedy sketch.

message 17: by Tasha (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments My porn name would be Trixie High.
George Washington Carver is an interesting man. I remember having a conversation with my dad about him concerning peanuts and sweet potatoes. Why did you choose him?
If you went to watch the hair bands, would you make sure your hair was ready for some banging?

message 22: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Awesome porn name!!!

I'd look like an idiot with long hair

Always had an interest in agriculture. I read about GWC when I was ypung and found his story fascinating. Now I'm grown probably more so. Rrally a pioneer in conseration farming plus all the useful ways to use his peanuts O should find an adult book on him. Plus to do it all as a black man in that time period was no small feat either. Being born a slave.

message 23: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Yeah, I always thought Trixie was just asking to be a porn star - get your tricks on with Trixie :)

GWC had an amazing life, and you're right, going from a slave to his work in agriculture to teaching at Tuskegee was a wonderful accomplishment.

If you decide to read Old Man's War I'd be up for a buddy read too. Any time is ok. It was a recommendation from a Catholic priest (& scifi fan) here on Goodreads, so I was fascinated. Haven't got round to reading it yet though.

message 39: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I'd be up for that too. It's been a while since my last Scalzi :-)

message 40: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments I need to read it too, so I'm in.

message 41: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Excellent. I'll go create a thread in the buddy read section and we can work out a date for it.

message 42: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Wow. You guys been busy. Count me in

message 43: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Finished for blue cover because blue eyes Snow Crash. I will move my read books into post 2 or 3 eventually and tidy things up.

message 44: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59921 comments Just remember to report whenever you finish a book - like this.

message 45: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments No problem Janice. Mostly posting now to remind myself what I'm doing. That's where I messed up in 2016 never posted in my thread and then I couldn't remember what I read or for what reason.

message 46: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59921 comments LOL! I understand.

message 47: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments About to start Butcher Bird. I was scrolling through my audible library not looking for anything in particular when I saw a man who appeared to be inked. Turns out he was and he owns a tattoo parlor. Score. Somehow when I saw the task could have a tattoo on cover if you don't have a tattoo I knew urban fantasy would definitely be an option I just never looked yet. Butcher Bird by Richard Kadrey

message 48: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Congo task 50. Which language would you like to learn. Swahili. I picked this up as a short book to movie for the toppler. Boom. Several characters speak Swahili as Swahili is spoken all along the congo

message 49: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59921 comments That's interesting that you'd like to learn Swahili. Planning on going on safari?

message 50: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Not sure I've given much thought of a safari but now that you mention it I don't think I'll rule it out either . Swahili was the first language that popped into my head and I don't know why. Probably because you just don't run into many people who speak it. Or at least I don't know anyone . Would be a useless language to know for the most part other than being able to say I speak Swahili. I think the word itself attracts me. Swahili just sounds so exotic compared to English French German, etc. You hear Swahili and instantly wonder now what language is that.
