1. New Release: read a book released in either December 2016 or January 2017. In case the book is not available for you, you can substitute by choosing any book released in 2016.
Popular Books Released in December and January
2. December and January: read a book that fits at least one of the following options:
a.) has both D & J in title
ex: The Nature of Jade
b.) has both D & J in author's name
ex: Jodi Picoult
3. Write a Friend Month (December): You need something to write your friend about? Read one of your friends' (can be in real life friends or on Goodreads) favorite books. Then you can write them about the book once you finish!
4. Bake Cookies Day (December 18th): Baking cookies can take some preparation, sort of like how an author uses a first book in a series as a way to prepare for the rest of the series. Read a first book in a series.
5. Christmas (December 25th): read a book that has green AND red on the cover OR read a book that has something you'd like to receive as a gift on the cover
6. Hanukkah (December 25th - January 1st): Since Hanukkah takes place over a week, read a book that takes a longer time to read. Read a book that has over 450 pages.
7. Friday the 13th (January 13th): read a book that you have been skeptical about (whether it's because of the author, genre, summary, friends' reviews, etc.)
8. Compliment Day (January 24th): read a book that has won an award of any kind (starred reviews, Printz winner, Man Booker prize etc.)
9. National Puzzle Day (January 29th): Puzzles are all about connecting one piece to another. This is sort of how novellas/short stories are, they connect one book or part of the story to another. Read a novella or short story. (Perfect for catching up on your 2016 reading challenge!)
10. National Hobby Month (January): We all have reading as one of our favorite hobbies. Read a book of your choice to celebrate.
Happy Reading!
Good luck and read on!
