Eek! I should have set up this topic a week ago!

Anyway, here's your chance to suggest group reads for December. All suggestions made in this topic will be listed in a poll in a few days' time so that we can vote on the two books for the monthly group read. Please feel free to repeat any earlier unsuccessful suggestions you made in previous topics.

David Lutkins | 0 comments I'll nominate The Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut for December's group read. Nominated for a Hugo in 1960.

Been wanting to re-read this for a while.

message 3: by Donna Rae (new)

Donna Rae Jones | 115 comments Having just read (almost) Jack Glass - which I fully recommend - I'd like to nominate another Adam Roberts novel, Yellow Blue Tibia. This was a nominee for the Arthur C. Clarke award in 2010 and, judging from the blurb, it sounds like it might be a good comparative novel to read in conjunction with David's nomination above.

Heartily, eagerly seconded!

I nominate this year's Hugo Award winner, "The Fifth Season," by N.K. Jemisin. A fantasy were the adept-ones can control the powers of a planet's geology. Read it with another group earlier this year, and deserving of our reading time, it most definitely is. I read and reviewed it earlier as well.

Gregory | 22 comments I'll nominate Antioch: https://www.amazon.com/Antioch-Sword-...

It is a debut dystopian hard sci-fi that weaves alchemy, ancient history and reincarnation into the plot. (I'm the author and the book published Nov 11)

Love the book cover on that, Gregory. And the blurb sounds intriguing.

I'll second it only if the group gets free copies...and those that receive them give timely honest reviews of the title here on Goodreads. Turns into a win/win for everybody.

Other than that...I'll go with the first Chronological book of the Vorkosigan Saga Falling Free. It received the following acclaims/awards: Hugo Award Nominee for Best Novel (1989), Nebula Award for Best Novel (1988), Prometheus Hall of Fame Award (2014)

I'll be setting up the poll shortly so if anyone has some last-minute suggestions, post them in the next couple of hours!

Hi Richard! This was already a book read for the months of September and October. As for me, I will not be nominating any book this month since I am still halfway through last month's "Fahrenheit 451". I got busy due to the release of Pokemon Sun and Moon! Haha

I've set up the poll here, which will open in four hours at 12:01 a.m. GMT and will last for two days. Happy voting!

Although The Fifth Season was one of the books discussed in September/October, we hadn't established a rule to eliminate nominations of previously discussed books so I've included it in the poll. However, in the future, we may establish a rule whereby a book cannot have been discussed in the previous 6 months (if everyone is OK with that).

PSXtreme My $1.29 worth of opinion: I believe unless the book wins BotM status, it can be reintroduced time and time again. BotM winners should have at least a 6 month to a year dead zone where they can't be brought back into the fold. It would be helpful for this rule to be in effect to have a pinned topic where the past winners are listed for reference purposes.

Good point about the list! And I only meant books that were selected for discussion as opposed to those merely nominated.
