No - but a part of the population in our City and in the surrounding areas speaks it... seemed more appropriate to learn a language closer to my home than somewhere far away :)

Shadow Study by Maria V. Snyder (Jan 31 - Feb 8/17)


Question #37 - favourite author
I had listed Maria V. Snyder as one of my favourite authors and was SO glad to dive into one of her books again after a few years of not reading anything by her - and now I have more to look forward to by her as well!

First book down. Way to go. I had to check out your author. Might have to try one of her books one day. :0)

Thanks! It feels good to start... I've been in a reading funk for a while and it's soooo good to get sucked into a good read again. And yeah, definitely give her a go - I think I just like the style of writing she has and because of that, I had read pretty much everything she had written years ago (even the ones that didn't sound that great from the synopsis ended up being decent reads) and had been waiting for more (and then forgot about her and was super happy to see she added more in my hiatus). Do you have an author like that?

Oh yes. I used to go in streaks, reading everything and then forgetting, like you. Since I've been with this group though, there is always something new coming along and I've found myself continually discovering new series and authors and read just about every genre except true romance. My first love is everything Sherlock Holmes but I have so many series going now that I cannot keep up or ever hope to read them all. I added three new ones last month. I love doing the challenges and group reads and buddy reads so much that I gave up watching TV.

First Frost by Sarah Addison Allen (Feb 9 - Feb 15/17)


Question #40 - favourite fruit - read a book with that fruit on the cover
I had chosen apple as my favourite fruit, and this book not only had an apple on the cover but I also had to include the book for this choice, because of the series' famous tree that throws apples at people (view spoiler)[and of how we found out that the girls' mother power was frost - as evidenced when she covered an apple in white frost on a hot day - which is one of the tiny but important tidbits that we know of her (hide spoiler)] - so how could I not pick it? hehe I loved finding the second book of this series (this one) - and I think I enjoyed it more than the first, which I had read some time ago.

I have the first book on my TBR list. Now you have me curious about the tree. I may need to move this one up higher on the list.

Oh wow it's December! I'm so so glad my Overdrive app keeps track of all my books! Going to update the lot now - hopefully a bunch will fit the challenge :)

I had been vague on my pick - I had originally written "all Fiction ... not really picky... and will read anything... if I had to choose one, maybe Fantasy or Dystopian" - and decided to go with the more specific category of Fantasy, since it fit within my original pick and was more narrow of a focus. This book was definitely better than I expected it to be - I loved the main character.

I chose "neither" as my answer and that meant I had to read a book with a predominantly white cover. So I headed over to the listopia and found this on it - and checked it out via my online library source - and it was REALLY good! I love love how challenges like this would get me to search out a book I never would have found otherwise! Anyways - it's definitely white!
