Now admittedly, two of my protagonists in Devil's Night Dawning do use quarterstaves, but there are plenty of swordsmen (and one or two women) knocking around in my book...
I didn't go for the GRR Martin route of being too specific though - longsword, broadsword etc, it just reminded me too much of AD&D :) Although I might have snuck a greatsword in there. And a falchion. Ooh, stop it now, sir, that's too wicked!! (I'm English, hence the weird sense of humour...)
