2. What is your favourite sport? – Read a book that is either about your favourite sport or one of the characters plays that sport. You could also chose a book where the cover shows that sport.

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4030 comments rules:

Part 1: The challenge is to read 12 books throughout the year based on the answers you made to the survey. You will receive a badge for completion of the challenge.

Part 2: Read an additional 12 books

Part 3: Read all 50 books.

------------------------------------------------------------

When you complete a book for the challenge, you need to leave a new message in your personal thread explaining the following:

- a countdown of the badges you read - Part 1: 1/12, 2/12, 3/12, etc. If you are working on subsequent badges, you will need to preface with Part 2 or Part 3.

- the book you read, link to it and the cover

- the question it relates to

- an explanation as to how the book you chose relates to your answer to the question

------------------------------------------------------------

General Rules:

1. You must read 12 different books. You may not count one book for two questions. You may not repeat a question. For example, you can't read two books for question 1 and leave out question 2.

2. You may not combine books with the Monthly Challenge.

3. The challenge is from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017. You must start and complete your books within the year AND within the time that you start the challenge. If you are late to start the challenge, you may not count books prior to when you start even if they were started/read after January 1.

4. Books must be at least 175 pages long. They may be any genre (unless specified in a task) and in any format (audiobook, ebook, hardcover/paperback). In the case where the edition you read does not specify page numbers, we will go with the edition from the Goodread’s search function.

5. If a task refers to the title, the subtitle doesn’t count.

6. If a task refers to the cover, it will be based on the cover of the issue you decide to read.

7. You will need to start your own reporting thread in this folder to track your progress. There will be a thread set up to report your success in completing the challenge and requesting your badge.

Me too.

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments I would love to visit Ireland, too. Long ago now, I got to visit England and Scotland for 10 days with my grandmother. That was back in 1983. She was 80, and I was 21. She passed away 4 years later. I still miss her so much.

Glad to see you back here more, Pragya. My spouse is also Leo. I like your answer about wanting to meet Leo Tolstoy. I love trains, too, very much. But love even more when I can walk to places in my every day life... to buy groceries, mail letters, go to a park, etc.

I'm very sorry to hear about your grandmother, TJ.

I went to England and Scotland in 2015 but could not travel to Ireland then. After watching P.S. I love you, it has been on the top of my list to travel to. Hopefully someday soon.

Oh I love walking too but it's so chaotic and people are everywhere which makes me not enjoy walking unless I'm on the hills or a sparsely populated country.

I have never completed a yearly challenge so this is new to me. I will definitely try for part 2, Cherie. Part 3 is not do-able. Haha.

message 25: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Well, technically, you have finished the challenge. :o)

As Janice set it up, you could be done with 12 books and get a badge, or do another 12 and get a second badge for part 2. Knowing the rest of us though, she created a 3rd badge for finishing the rest of the 26 books left from the list of 50 questions.

message 26: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59930 comments There are groups where there are 50 + book challenges for a season, every quarter of the year. I can't even finish the 50 tasks in this challenge spaced over the entire year.

I design the annual challenges to account for most reading speeds. That's why we have badges at 12, 24 & beyond.

#10 Task 9. What is your relationship status? – Read a book with that word in the title, or where the main character or author shares that status. Or…. Get creative. What kind of book will be representative?

Beautiful Disaster Beautiful Disaster (Beautiful, #1) by Jamie McGuire

This book is about a relationship which is beautiful but disastrous at the same time which is exactly what my relationship is like, at present.

#11. Task #19. What is your current desk top picture? – Interpret that desk top picture any way you like. Read a book that represents that interpretation. For example, mine is a magnified picture of a frozen soap bubble. I could interpret it as ice, or alien landscape, or bubble. I could read a book with “Ice” in the title, a book set on an alien planet, or has bubbles on the cover. The gophering could be endless on this one.

Mine is peanuts and characters playing in the snow.

#12 Task #1. What is your name? (First, Last, Middle, Nickname) – Read a book that contains one of your names in some way – author, title, character.

I share last name with the author.
