Dark Tower Project 2017 discussion
The Reading Schedule

I'm a bit ahead as I'm halfway through The Wastelands.
There are a couple of other books mentioned in passing in that btw - The Bridge of San Luis Rey and You Can't Go Home Again - could add these to the schedule to extend it to cover the whole year ? Sure there will be others mentioned in passing in the later books too - an added benefit of SK books is that he makes reference to other author's books that he recommends !

I am curious why you're including Wizard of Oz, but not any of King's own tie-in books, like The Stand, Salem's Lot, Hearts in Atlantis, IT, UR, Insomnia, etc. Everything's Eventual actually has two tie-in stories: Little Sisters of Eluria, and the title story, Everything's Eventual, which includes a character from DT book 7. These books would seem to me to add much more to the experience than T.S. Eliot's poem, which has nothing at all to do with DT other than similarity of title. (Just my opinion.)
The majority of King's books tie in to this universe in some way, but some are major players (those I listed are direct ties with characters that appear in the DT series), and I definitely think that if you're reading ancillary works, King's own tie-in books should be included. :)
Thus concludes my rude newbie "You're Doing It Wrong" post. Sorry for the interruption!

Hi Becky! For this project I'm interested in the texts that have influenced King in the DT series. I've (selfishly) included those works which I haven't read and are relatively short. (For example, Lord of the Rings is an influence, but I'm already familiar with that work and it's a huge time commitment to reread.) I'm not so much interested in seeing how King ties DT characters into his other works with this project.
You are, of course, free to read as much or as little as you like while following along with the series! :)

I tried to keep this project to the 8 months I have off before I go back to graduate school. I know once I go back I won't have time to read for fun. The extra texts I've chosen are just ones that interest me. You are, of course, free to extend your reading for this project if you have the time. :)

Okay that's fine - your schedule fits very well with the movie release date anyway !

I re-read the whole series every year and I mourn every time I get to the end that it's over.
A few of my DT books are bound by Minion duct tape they are so worn, which amuses my Mom to no end. She introduced me to Sai King's works many years ago.
This reading schedule/group is a great idea!
