Rules:
Books must be 150 pages or longer.
All books must have been translated from another language to English.
You may read the book either in English or the original language.
At least 2 books per level must be by female authors.
You may choose to do either level 1 or 2, or both levels.
Continents:
For the purpose of this challenge the following definitions will apply to ensure that there are sufficient languages to select from:
North America will include all the islands e.g Cuba, Jamaica, etc around the American continents.
South America will refer to the mainland continent.
Europe will include Russia, but the "stans" e.g. Kazakstan will fall into Asia.
Asia to cover mainland Asia including the Middle East plus Japan.
Australasia will include all the islands to the south of Asia e.g. Malaysia, Sri Lanka etc.
Africa will include the islands around the continent e.g. Madagascar.
Level 1:
Read 5 books originally written in 5 different languages from a single continent.
Level 2:
Read 5 books originally written in 5 different languages from 5 continents. (If you choose to do level 1 and 2, you may re-use one book between the levels, so 9 books in total).
Bonus points:
Bonus points may be earned for the following:
1. If the translator has won an award for their translation of any book.
2. An extra point if the award is for the book that you have read.
3. If either the translator or author identifies themselves as LGBTQ.
4. If the book was published prior to 1900.
5. If the author or translator may be identified as a member of a minority group.
