Kasia (kasiareads) | 6 comments Basically I wanted to make a folder where anyone could ask questions... book related questions are preferred but anything appropriate is welcome!

My question is, in your opinion, if I started reading a book at the end of 2016 and finished it in 2017, would you count it as read in 2017 and count it towards my 2017 reading challenge?

Kelly (pumpkins29) | 143 comments I have started a couple of my 2017 books already. I don't want to take a break from reading, but I know I probably won't finish any more books in 2016.

Lisa Grønsund | 6163 comments I joined just the group this month, so had I had unfinished books come December 31st I would've carried them over and counted them as part of my 2017 challenges for certain.
Anything I start reading in this next week, that I know I won't finish counts for next year :)

Tania | 23 comments To answer your question - I will make sure my last book is finished on or before 31st. will start new book and new count on the 1st.
My question: is short reads (100pages or less) supposed to count towards your goal as "books read"? I mark them as "read" so they automatically count but not sure if they should. feels like cheating

Greg (lupercross) | 2250 comments I would say its when you finish the book, not when you started it, that matters. I just finished my 100 books for 2016 and will start reading new books this week. If I finish one before Sunday, it counts as 2016 otherwise I will put it toward my 2017 challenges.

Lisa Grønsund | 6163 comments Honestly, I believe it's a very personal choice. You should count whatever you feel comfortable with. If it feels like a book, count it, if it doesn't, don't. It is afterall your challenge.

Personally I don't discriminate. I count everything I read, no matter length. If it's listed on Goodreads, it qualifies as a book and is included in my final tally :)

Greg (lupercross) | 2250 comments I agree with Lisa. If goodreads lists it as a book, then I will count it when I read it. I occasionally read really long books and get behind in my challenges, so it is nice that I can find a book like Catwings which was only 40 pages long. I also read collections of comics like The Complete Peanuts, Vol. 2: 1953-1954 which I count.

Eldrid Lokson I've been doing this for years. buy just before Christmas is when I start my 'new year'. the first time I started the 50 books was during that time so to me it just makes sense to keep going.
