Ramon Somoza (rsg56) | 5 comments This question is addressed to YA authors: What are the YA genre(s) in which you write?

I personally write Romance and Science Fiction.

My work is mainly in Spanish, though some of my SciFi novellas have also been published in English.

message 2: by Paul (new)

Paul West (paulwwest) I write in a different YA genre than most other authors. My published novel "Bridgetown High" is partly historic (set in 1965), partly mystery, partly suspense, partly romance.

Devin Carlson (devinleecarlson) Great question, Ramon. I write YA Fantasy. I include some romance, but can't call it a Romance novel.

Lynne Stringer | 344 comments I've written a science fiction romance trilogy, and more recently, a contemporary drama.

Ramon Somoza (rsg56) | 5 comments Well, so far it seems that people mix different genres within a main YA genre; I personally keep my two genres strictly apart.
I am curious about what other authors will come up with.

message 6: by Jeanette (new)

Jeanette | 6 comments I write YA fantasy - my novels (not yet published) - are secondary world, courtly intrigue with adventure and (sometimes) romantic elements - or maybe could be seen as family saga.

My short stories and novella (Heart of the Mountain) are set in the same world (though not always the same culture/place/time). I've also written a flash fiction that's sci-fi (not specifically YA though).

message 7: by Adele (new)

Adele Jones | 8 comments My YA trilogy comes under techno-crime thriller. Essentially sci-fi (i.e. pushing the boundaries of current scientific technologies), it's written as contemporary fiction set in Brisbane, Australia.

Jason Hamilton (storyhobbit) | 18 comments Primarily YA high-fantasy. But I eventually want to try steampunk. Also, I have an epic Arthurian series I plan on trying in a year or so.

message 18: by L.C. (new)

L.C. Perry | 202 comments I write in different genres. It depends on what I feel like writing, but generally my stories will have romance to some degree. I just finished a series that was high fantasy, action/adventure and romance and right now I'm working three different projects - one on realistic fiction/romance, one paranormal romance and one low fantasy with side character romance :)

Visionary & Metaphysical. How's that for a mouthful? I found it hard to find the right category until I came across this one. It works well for the content of my book.

message 27: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra (alex25) | 5 comments While I have written contemporary fiction in the past (short stories mostly) my novels tend to be fantasy (both epic and urban). As a reader I was always fascinated with world building so I think I was inevitably drawn to the fantasy genre when I started writing.

message 28: by Felix (new)

Felix I mostly write adult fantasy, but my one YA project is LGBTQIA+ (#ownvoice for aromanticism and asexuality) and contemporary, with no romance but a lot of friendship.
