Anyone?

message 2: by Brena (new)

Brena Mercer | 617 comments I am like the king in The Little Prince. I only resolve to do what I know I am going to do anyway. Guilt free life...

No resolutions. I'm male. I have every right to be commitment phobic.

message 4: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Shiroff | 840 comments I try not to set myself up for failure. And besides, I like it when I happily surprise myself.

message 5: by Brena (new)

Brena Mercer | 617 comments I resolve to kill my dog. I wanted him to die in his sleep, but that is not happening. Nothing funny about it. I am cruel for letting him live this long. I can't stop crying, but I have to do it next week.

message 6: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Shiroff | 840 comments Oh Brena! I'm so sorry. That is one of the toughest decisions to make. I hope you can find peace with it soon. My grandmother once said that dogs left home when it was time for them to go and that keeping them confined to a house or yard messes up with that. According to her, they don't want to die in front of us. So now we have to make that decision for them. I don't know why, but remembering her telling me that when I was too young to understand, helped me put my dog down when it was time.

Lisa Shiroff | 840 comments I am changing my answer. I resolve to buy a new computer.

I've not given any thought to resolutions. I resolve to continue doing the good things I do, only more so. And stop doing something bad I do, if I can.

How's that for specificity?

So sorry . . .

This decision is coming for me as well. I guess my biggest wish for the coming year (other than the Trump-not-killing-us-all one) is that my dear old dog takes a nap in his favorite spot out back one lovely summer day, and just doesn't wake up.

And now, to lighten the mood a bit -

I'd resolved to read Somerset Maugham this year. I hereby resolve to read him next year. And own a Jaguar.

message 13: by Brena (new)

Brena Mercer | 617 comments I was going to buy a Volvo, and my ex-husband gave me a Jaguar. It was grounds for a divorce. Years before that someone owed me money and gave me a Jaguar which I sold immediately. Both of those cars had already had their electrical fires, but I couldn't deal with the uncertainty of arriving at destinations. Jaguars have the most beautiful body designs of any car though. Good luck with that, and reading Maugham.

message 14: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Shiroff | 840 comments Read Maugham's short stories, Joel. They're much better than his full-length books.

Brena, I really must get to know you better!

Thanks for the advice. I was never sure where to start.

I happened upon this perfect quotation today -

"He who breaks a resolution is a weakling; he who makes one is a fool." ~ F. M. Knowles

Fine, then, Melki. I resolve to make no resolutions.

That'll do.

Maybe not . . . Chinese New Year is here. Are we supposed to re-set our resolutions for it?

I hadn't even gotten around to making them. Or writing my Xmas letter. Sigh.
