Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Hiya, Team Caps! Thanks for volunteering to guide your team through a round of BookShelf Bingo!

Your job, should you choose to accept it, will require a few things:
1 ~ Be our go-to person should we have any questions about your team
2 ~ Organize your teammate's weekly reads for each shelf/category so that the BSB Ninjas can quickly and easily verify and approve your stamp request(s)
2a ~ Create a master list in a post (preferably on the first page of your team's thread) and update it weekly or as often as necessary
3 ~ Encourage and motivate your team (you may also ask to borrow Judithe's whip whenever necessary)
4 ~ Post regularly to ensure your team is communicating and on track each week
4a ~ Send them a PM and friendly poke if they haven't posted at least once a week, noted their book choice, and/or appear to have dropped out of webspace
5 ~ Send us a PM (Steph, Sandra or Judithe) should you need us for any reason throughout the game

Steph Ann | 1220 comments Hi, everybody! I was so excited to see sign ups come around for Bingo! I absolutely love this challenge. I had a hard time keeping up with my reading this past year, so I'm hoping this will help me kick off 2017 the right way!

A little about me, I'm 34 and live in Illinois. I have two boys, ages 2 and 1, and am now pregnant with baby number 3, which means I will have three kids under three in the spring. Life will certainly not be boring lol.

I have been captain before, but I would prefer not to do it this time around.

Looking forward to getting started!

message 7: by Laura (new)

Laura | 1168 comments Hi! I'm so excited for this to start!

I'm a homeschooling mom of 6 girls. We also have 16 chickens and 6 cats, so we keep pretty busy!

Steph Ann, my first turned 3 one month before my 3rd was born, so I totally get how busy your life is. In fact, she turned 9 about 3 weeks after #6 was born!

message 8: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 1220 comments @Laura, I'm definitely nervous about the whole three under three thing! We managed to adapt to the craziness of 2 under 2 though, so I'm sure we'll figure it out! This one's another boy, so I'm sure the three of them will keep me on my toes!

I definitely think that adjusting from one to two is the hardest. It is easier to adjust to three. And after that it's pretty easy! :)

message 10: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 1220 comments I've heard that adjusting to three is easier! That would be great because adjusting to two was rough lol.

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Happy Reading, Ladies!

message 12: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 1220 comments I think we have been on the same team a few times, Vilda! It's good to "see" you again! :-)

message 13: by Laura (new)

Laura | 1168 comments This is my second time playing. I don't think I've played anything with any of you, before. I'm happy to make new bookish friends! :)

message 14: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 1220 comments I will try to think up some team name possibilities today!

message 15: by Trinia (new)

Trinia | 837 comments AH! Finally got here.... sorry all, been out of town for 2 weeks. This is my first time playing and I've got to catch up on the rules.
I'm excited to get to know you all and will be sending friend requests (don't feel pressured to add if it's not your thing :) )

I'm a bit older than y'all at 47, but still try to feel young with my reads ;0) I live in Texas with my family, we have 3 Boys... twins who are 15 and our baby at 13 years old. So Steph Ann I can sympathize your 3 under 3. It is well worth it for those later years ;)
I've been Captain in a Wobble group, but that sort of fell in my lap. I'd prefer not to captain this one, as I've never played before.

I like the Read 'Til You Drop name , lol!!!
more later, as my laundry is overflowing...

message 16: by Laura (new)

Laura | 1168 comments I like Read Til You Drop.

The others may be younglings, but I crossed the threshold into my 40s a few years ago. :)

message 17: by Laura (new)

Laura | 1168 comments I prefer not to be Captain. I'm running some challenges in another group and still recovering from being a Wobble captain. :)

Thanks Vilda!

Looks like we have a great team here :0)
Can't wait to start... Anything we can do for preparation???

message 19: by Trinia (new)

Trinia | 837 comments It looks like we have a lot of choices from shelves... can it be any of their shelves? Seems easy enough ;)

message 20: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Yes, any shelf on the group bookshelf is good, I think there's over 4000 books there to pick from. Just make sure its 200 pages or over.

message 21: by Trinia (new)

Trinia | 837 comments Thanks Sandra! And thanks for the page listing, other challenges allow 100+. I like the higher minimum... keeps it more even :)

message 22: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Haha I like em lower, but we try and make it fairer with the 200. Especially towards the end when sometimes its a race to the end.

I love that series!

I'm not sure what I'll read for the free space. I read a lot of Paranormal & UF, so I shouldn't have a problem finding something on the shelves. But if I pick a book now, I'll never be able to wait 2 weeks to start reading it! :)

message 24: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 1220 comments I like the Read Til You Drop name as well!

I'll figure out my Free Space book this week! I think I know what it's going to be, but it's also possible I'll give in and read it sooner rather than later lol.

message 25: by Laura (new)

Laura | 1168 comments I know what I'll read for my free space. Another group I'm in is reading A Hunger Like No Other starting Jan. 21. That's on the PNR series list in the group here, 7th on the list.

message 26: by Trinia (last edited Jan 05, 2017 09:12AM) (new)

Trinia | 837 comments I'm still looking at my free space choices. Waiting to pick one, to see if I can use it for another challenge as well. If not, no problem ;)

message 27: by Steph Ann (last edited Jan 06, 2017 11:19AM) (new)

Steph Ann | 1220 comments Provided I can get it from the library and keep myself from reading it beforehand, I'm going to go with Murder of Crows (The Others, #2) by Anne Bishop for my Free Space read. :) It's on the group bookshelf.

message 28: by Laura (new)

Laura | 1168 comments You could always read it now and read the next one for your free space book. :)

Steph Ann | 1220 comments Laura wrote: "You could always read it now and read the next one for your free space book. :)"

That thought had crossed my mind lol. When I go to the library this weekend, I'm going to see if they have the third book as well, and if they do, I'm just going to check them both out. :)

Laura | 1168 comments 1 week!!!

Just to make sure I'm clear on this, in addition to the standard 5 in a row, there are a few different patterns that can win, as well? Because the winning patterns seem to encompass several 5 in a rows in the pattern.

Eta: Never mind. I think I got confused by this in the Bingo Rules thread: (2) The stamped shelves result in "5 in a row" (horizontal, vertical or diagonal) -OR- match the round's specific winning pattern. But from reading other threads it looks like we're doing an airplane pattern this time around, rather than a 5-in-a-row.

message 31: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Yep, we're trying out the airplane this time around.

message 32: by Trinia (new)

Trinia | 837 comments One more day! I promise to have my free space book chosen tomorrow , trying to time it with another challenge ;)

Can't wait to get started team!

message 37: by Trinia (new)

Trinia | 837 comments So ready! just finished my last read :/ hurry up time! lol...

So, just to make sure I'm understanding the rules correctly. They will call a spot say "I-2", then we each pick a book on the "kick-ass Hero" shelf? In addition to our free space book. Then, We get the stamp once we have all finished reading, rating and reviewing our book(s).

Will we each request our stamps or does our lovely Captain Vilda request each stamp?

message 41: by Trinia (new)

Trinia | 837 comments That's awesome! I'm at a list of 5 so far ... may be tough to decide on this one ;)

message 42: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 1220 comments I think I'm going to go with Vision in Silver (The Others, #3) by Anne Bishop for the hunters shelf. So I'll start with my free space book, and then just continue to roll on through the series lol.

message 43: by Trinia (last edited Jan 18, 2017 04:13PM) (new)

Trinia | 837 comments I've picked The Shadow Queen (Ravenspire, #1) by C.J. Redwine for the Hunter's Shelf.

For my Free Space Book I'll read The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman by Neil Gaiman ; it's on the SOS: BEST OF: Stand Alone Novels List.

message 44: by Laura (new)

Laura | 1168 comments I've just requested Out for Blood (Drake Chronicles, #3) by Alyxandra Harvey from my library. If it takes awhile to come in I'll switch and read Top Secret Twenty-One (Stephanie Plum, #21) by Janet Evanovich , which I already have checked out. And I'll start my Free Space book on Sunday. Our group read starts then.

I've got the audiobook version, so I'm excited to see what all the rave is about too!

@Steph Ann - I've had that series on my to read list for a while now! Can't wait to hear what you think about it ;)

Shelf #1: Hunters
Read:
1/20/17
Rating: ★★★★

Review:
I listened and read this book.

This book has gotten some negative feedback in the reviews, most of which I can agree with. Typical heroine story... Poor, beautiful orphaned girl seeks revenge for being wronged by her evil Aunt. She finds she has magical powers and trains for many years. She meets a young handsome man... blah blah blah...
Yes, I know, we've heard it all before. But if you can put aside the typical (because isn't every romance the same story) and push through, I think you'll find a very exciting ending.
Lorelai is a great heroine, likable in every way. Character development was good, the story flowed along fairly quickly. Overall a good story. I would recommend to those fantasy genre lovers.

Steph Ann | 1220 comments I always copy and paste too lol.

Glad to see you liked it, Trinia! I'll have to add it to my to read list! :)

I should have my Free Space book done tonight. One bad thing about working from home (I'm a transcriptionist), the book is sitting here on the couch next to me, and it's really making me want to stop working and just take the rest of the day off lol.

Murder of Crows (The Others, #2) by Anne Bishop (SOS Bookshelf)

Read: 1/20/17
Rating: 4.5 stars

Review

Man, this series is addicting! It has been a long time since I have felt so immersed in a world an author has created. All of the side characters are amazing. I never mind jumping to a different character's point of view rather than sticking with Meg or Simon. Each book seems to give me that feeling of "I must keep reading" while also making me want to take my time so that I can savor everything.

I definitely loved the main plot of this one, which focused on trying to find The Controller and put an end to the basic slavery of the cassandra sangue. Really, the only reason this doesn't get a full five stars from me is it felt like the book started off a bit slower than the first one. Honestly though, I still enjoyed every minute of it and am already rushing through Book Three!
