Jennifer | 236 comments I have more books on my to-read list than I can read in a year. This group is great but you all are bad influences on my to-read list. January I added book 455 to the list and by dec 30 2016 I had 725. If you count kids books, last year I greatly surpassed my goal of reading 30 books in a year by reading 85 books. The math isn't looking good.

So I was inspired by another group member to pick a book from each page of my to read list and pick that to read so that I'm selecting a variety of books based on my interests over the last few year. I'm not going as far as picking the books but have committed to most months selecting something from my existing (perhaps autocorrect is right and that should be exhausting) list. The list is printed and I'm ready to go!!

Chrissie Jennifer, being a member of GR from almost the start, I have readjusted how I see my TBR list. Now I think of it as a list of books to choose from. Interests vary and the day you want a book on a particular topic you can turn to that shelf of the list and find the perfect one! TBR is rather a list of great book possibilities to choose from. I have given up the belief I can ever read all the books.

Jennifer | 236 comments Yes. I remember being in elementary school and we had a reading challenge with prizes. Each area of the library had a prize. I looked around and realized u couldn't read all the books in one month so I decided to pick the smallest section - that section was sports. I hate sports lol

But really I see this more of a chance to revisit some of the books the grabbed my interest at different times.

Chrissie Nice, the list is not a burden but an opportunity.

Jeez, reading sports, a topic that didn't interest you must have been bad. I think the teacher should have devised a system that encouraged reading rather than squashing it.

Gemma (gemmagem20) | 460 comments That's a great way of looking at it, Chrissie. I try not to add too many books to my TBR as part of the enjoyment for me. Is finishing a book, and then seeing how I feel to choose my next book. Never have too much of a 'plan' it takes some self control I can tell you ;)

Oh, I agree that one shouldn't have strict plans b/c one's mood change! Sometimes I want more and sometimes I want a breather from the topic just read. My one restriction is that if I have purchased a book or a couple they must be read before I purchase others. OK, if there is a special deal I will get it but within a month is it has to be read. I am never again going to pile up unread books.

Jennifer | 236 comments Love in the Time of CholeraAdded May 2016 (but really was long before I was on Goodreads. I think I just happened to find an audiobook in May.

I had a hard time following the names as an audiobook. This left each story feeling disjointed. Most of the book I didn't get the love triangle aspect. Some parts seemed disturbing. At one point I wondered about starting it again on paper but I don't think I found enough there to make it worth my effort. I wanted to like this more than I did. Disappointing.

I had some difficulty with the names as well listening to the audiobook. I have found Garcia Marquez not the author for me - maybe I would like his books better if I could read them in Spanish but I doubt it.

I read the real book a couple years ago, but it was not a favorite...I did not hate it though and I'm glad I read it. His One Hundred Years of Solitude on the other hand...I could not finish :-(

Jennifer | 236 comments The Alienist Added to Goodreads April 2012 (was this when I first joined). 5stars

Interesting characters, suspense, great writing, interesting setting and historic period, and unique story. Great period mystery.

There is a chance this should have been 4 stars but I've read such poor writing lately that this book seems amazing.

So glad I listened to this chilling book about a tortured boy who becomes a horrible man, and alienest who wants to understand
