A new year, a new challenge here at Goodreads. If you'd like to join the GR reading challenge, you may do so HERE. This thread is to help encourage and support each other on the road to this year's goal.

As with last year, I've set mine at 85. Now to pick out that first book of the year . . .

message 2: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina The Book Lover | 388 comments I set mine to 50 books, I might up that number later on in the year if I'm ahead.

message 3: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Butala | 7 comments set mine to 150 since i started late last year . I'm aiming high!

message 4: by Marisa, Cozy Mysteries Assistant Moderator (new)

Marisa (moretta) | 4145 comments Mod
I've set mine to 200, as last year, although I can increase it a bit at the end (in the same way). And I've already finished my first book ;)

message 5: by Linda (new)

Linda (rudylkr) | 8978 comments I did 110 again this year. Am already a book ahead since I didn't finish a book that was mainly read last year until the 1st.

message 6: by Paula (new)

Paula Adams (goodreadscompadams57) | 44987 comments I set mine to 100 again this year. I just barely made it for 2016.

message 7: by Julesy (new)

Julesy | 1411 comments I set my goal to 80 books, same as last year's. I'm planning to be more discerning with my reading in 2017.

message 8: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 88 comments I'm going to set mine at 100 like last year.

message 9: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments I set it at 90.

message 10: by BarbaraH (new)

BarbaraH | 57 comments I will try for 60
Think I can do better but never know

message 11: by Jenene (new)

Jenene | 133 comments Read 91 in 2016 so attempting 100 for 2017.

message 12: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 108 comments Mine is 156 for this year. Three books a week.

message 13: by Kirsten (last edited Jan 03, 2017 12:24PM) (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I read 13 last year, so I'll go for 20 this year.

Oops! Thought it was the Goodreads Choice Awards challenge. I've put in a challenge of 210 as I read 140 last year and I always try to do 50% better than the previous year.

message 14: by Paula (new)

Paula | 104 comments I'm going for 65 again this year although I read 72 last year. I never know what my work schedule will be like and it slows me down so I'll be safe with 65.

message 15: by Tonya (new)

Tonya De Lige | 177 comments I am going for 50 again this year. I barely made half the last 2 years, but I plan on doing A LOT more reading this year!

message 16: by Valerie (new)

Valerie | 440 comments I am starting with 100. I will probably up the number if I look to be too far ahead, but that is my starting spot.

message 17: by Trish (new)

Trish (trishhartuk) | 420 comments I'm putting in an opening bid of 175, although I expect it'll get over 200 by the end of the year.

message 18: by Carla (new)

Carla (carla1957) Because I read a variety of genres, including picture books and middle grades (relatively quick reads), am retired and now live alone (recently widowed) I have set my goal at 400.

message 19: by Gary (new)

Gary Sundell | 2274 comments I set my goal at 50,subject to revision later in the year. Last year i read 104, but only one of those was a doorstopper.

message 20: by Karen (new)

Karen Holman | 88 comments Karen wrote: "Read 110 in 2016 so will try 150 for 2017!"

I am starting to read my TBR list first and have completed 3 to date.

message 21: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 678 comments I'm going to start off at 200. I plan on reading a couple of doorstoppers this year (The Count of Monte Cristo and Les Misérables), so I may end up with fewer, but I'm certainly aiming to reach 200 this year. :)

Heather L (wordtrix) | 27504 comments Mod
Good luck to everyone in their reading goals!

message 23: by Kel (new)

Kel | 1 comments Mine is 52 this year.

message 24: by Mary Ann (new)

Mary Ann (mahofacre) | 395 comments I set mine to 175, I read about 182 last year and I have finished 4 this year, so far. I am trying to finish some knitting and crochet projects so that cuts into my reading time and I cannot listen to books on tape, as my girls are home schooled and cannot have something playing during the time that I am working with them. So that cuts into my time. During summer, I usually get most of my reading accomplished and so may change as I get to the goal.

I've tried that, but somehow however many books I read off my TBR, it keeps getting bigger, not smaller...

message 26: by Rachel Anne (new)

Rachel Anne (racheldespins) I've set mine to 70.

message 27: by Shaz (new)

Shaz (zabooksihaveread) | 26 comments I have challenged myself to read 120 books.

message 28: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie Drummond | 41 comments Last year I challenge my self to read 112 books I done that now for the NEW YEAR OF 2017 I've set the bar higher this year; I've CHALLENGE MYSELF TO READ 135 BOOKS THIS YEAR. I know this is a very big challenge for me but I think I can do this. One way to know is to do it.
First book read and finished was [ Putting on The Dogs book #2 in the series A Reigning Cats & Dogs Mystery. ] by: Cynthia Baxter

Congratulations! And yes, I suspect your reading is going to decrease in the second half of the year ;)

message 39: by Britney (new)

Britney (tarheels) | 142 comments I set mine at 35. I read over that last year but I am keeping it relatively small as I have other projects I'm working on so those cut into my reading.

message 40: by Trish (new)

Trish (trishhartuk) | 420 comments I admit it, I've already raised mine to 200.

ROFL! :-D

message 42: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl Mallon Webb (cherylannwebb) | 8 comments I've set mine at 100. I read 103 last year so I should shoot higher, more like 110. That would be a real challenge. But I'm chicken.

message 43: by Rona (new)

Rona (ronadareader) I have set mine at 30, but will probably increase it as the year goes on. I found it difficult to read a lot last year and I hope to read a lot more this year...we will see :)

message 44: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 678 comments As of today. I've read 15 books. Since my goal is 200, I'm already 4 books behind. Oh well, I still have 11 months to catch up. ;) :)

message 45: by Nina (new)

Nina Law | 0 comments I have set mine for 72 books. I did not accomplish my reading goal last year, but I am hoping to beat my challenge this year.

message 46: by Nina (new)

Nina Law | 0 comments I have set mine for 72 books! I have already read 12 books so I am off to a good start. I may add to my challenge total if I see I'm going to meet it before the end of the year.

Currently 7/80, one book behind schedule. Did not get as much reading done yesterday as hoped, for which I blame partly on the cold I've had for a couple weeks, partly on an inconsiderate neighbor -- it's difficult to concentrate when someone's music is so loud they can hear it in the next block, and it's far too cold to read outside. :-\

message 48: by Marisa, Cozy Mysteries Assistant Moderator (new)

Marisa (moretta) | 4145 comments Mod
Heather, sorry about the cold, I hope you're better now. And yes, inconsiderate neighbors are a plague.

Thanks, Marisa -- I'm mostly feeling better. As long I'm still, not moving around a lot, I'm fine, but if I do too much I start coughing again. Which is a perfect excuse for doing nothing but reading. '-D
