Bring on the talking cats! Or the sophisticated AIs. Or bug-eyed monsters from outer space. Maybe I will go with Ancillary Justice for this one.

Xanthi (libertine101) Carole Nelson Douglas' Midnight Louis series features a black cat of that name who tells the story from his POV in interspersed chapters. He doesn't talk though.
I love the cat's manner of speaking. He narrates in a 1940's gumshoe manner. Think Humphrey Bogart.

Laura | 144 comments Ooooo, husband has a slew of sci-fi on his shelf. There's got to be a robot or AI somewhere in there.

Cheryl (6of8) | 247 comments Midnight Louie might be where I end up -- I thought about Sneaky Pie Brown, but then realized that those are 3rd person and cover people and animals.

Midnight Louis definitely counts. I can't remember if the POV switches to human at some points, but even if it does, I'd call it good. I could swear I saw one of these around here just the other day, so maybe I'll read it for this prompt.

I read one Sneaky Pie Brown novel. That was more than enough.

Xanthi (libertine101) Yes, the Midnight Louis books switch chapters from cat POV to human.
I have a few Sneaky Pie Browns on my TBR. Not started the series yet though. I hope they are not awful...

The one I read was just so...precious. I couldn't stand it.

Mary Arkless | 153 comments I just finished Animal Farm by George Orwell.

Cindi Kelley (cheesygiraffe) I read The Automatic Detective by A. Lee Martinez last week. It's told from a robot's pov. This is the 2nd book I've read by this author. He doesn't have any series but his books have been pretty good so far and they're usually sci-fi or fantasy.

I don't think my mental health could take an Orwell read right now. Farthing (think Gosford Park meets 1984) gave me nightmares.

I'll have to try some of his stuff. Sounds interesting.

I ended up reading The Book Thief for this one. I was expecting to absolutely love this one, but I thought it was pretty meh most of the time.

Laura | 144 comments I'm in the midst of a reread (well, a listen, as it's on audiobook) of Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH

Oh, I loved that book!! One of my elementary school teachers read it aloud to the class.

I think Who Is Coming to Our House? counts. It was 3rd person, technically, but was very clearly from the collective viewpoint of the animals of the Nativity. Why there was a pig there, I have no idea.
