16. Italy - Gepards (The Leopard) by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa

One of my favorite books.

It turned out to be one of my favorites too. Definitely not a page turner for me, but it had an attraction that pulls you in again and again, transporting reader to sun scorched Sicily with its' pastel meadows and witty, compelling storytelling. I have a soft spot for books about slow destruction of a bygone eras.

I'm continuing my 2016 Globetrotter challenge as a relaxed Circumnavigator, reading books from authors who are local to the respective country. I think that translations are very essential while trying to experience world and the more points of view - the better. Trying to honor already existing translations, very few in a global perspective, I'm first going to read Latvian translations and after about 30 books I will most likely continue reading in English.
