Thanks, Laura. I'll focus on other challenges now (Bingo in FBR and Subgenre in this group) but I want to read some more books from the bookshelf eventually :)

Great job. Loved The Last Wish. Also, love the series. It's another one of those I need to finish.

Thanks! I didn't expect to enjoy the book this much. I joined a buddy read with one book per month so I should finish the series in December :D
Completely forgot to update this thread. I finished The Rithmatist for my 14th book of 2018.
I don't think I'll be able to do 24 this year. I'm focusing on completing all my series this year, which is really incompatible with this challenge. I'm glad I went crazy in Jan and read most of my books for this challenge right off the bat.

I believe this will be my last year for this challenge. Next year it will be only the Series Challenge.

You don't have much left to read on the group bookshelf anyway, do you?
I'm already tracking my series elsewhere, so next year, it'll be only this challenge I think :)

I'll never finish this challenge! I've done 3 this year. That said, I've signed up for much fewer budfy reads. There were so many new books and I need to read many of the ones I already own.
Nah, you're taking a little detour, that's all :p
The number of books from the bookshelf I'm reading is declining as well. I mean, the first year, I was just getting back to Fantasy (and reading in general) so this challenge was also my main source of good reads. Now that I'm a little more well read in Fantasy, I'm finding more and more books I want to read outside the challenge :)

Hahaha! I wander and read some Sci-Fi sometimes but yeah, the Fantasy genre is so incredibly rich :D

This was a difficult book for me to get through. I liked the story but it was a tad confusing at times.

I went in after being warned countless times that this book (and the whole series) is so multi-layered that I was probably going to be confused for most of the book. So I just enjoyed the story & the writing, and went with the flow. Also helped that I was armed with Scott's little chapter-per-chapter summaries.

That's good to know. I think the summaries would help. It would be great if the Malazan books were graphic novels.

I don't know of summaries but Virginie says Scott has one.

Oops, missed this!
Those summaries/explanations are in a thread over at Scott's Buddy-reads group.
Here's for the first book:

Thanks Virginie! I didn't know who Scott was or about the buddy reads group. I'll check these out :)

Please remember us after you visit there. It seems the Buddy group is like a Black Hole.

Don't worry. Having a buddy is way too much accountability for me :)

You're welcome! I only check those summaries/explanations once in a while to refresh my memory, or right after I finished a particularly obscure chapter. Scott is a true Malazan-pedia :)
I think he's read the whole thing several times :O

Aaaah yes, it's difficult to do BR sometimes, especially if you're a mood reader. The BR I'm enjoying the most at the moment is Super Powereds: Year 3. We're a group of 3 reading 15 chapters twice a week (the chapters are really short; the books were published as web-novels to begin with), and we're speculating like crazy in between :D

This group is my happy place! Where else can we voice unpopular opinions on authors and not get spat on :O
