Louise | 590 comments Challenges and associated threads are now up!

We have two main challenges on the group home page

Read Women 2017
Set yourself a target and keep track of how many female-authored books you read this year! Pick a shelf name for all your books written by women (mine is literally female-authors) and any book on that shelf with a read date from 1 Jan to 31 Dec 2017 will appear on your challenge.
Associated thread here (note: thread is more about tracking no of authors than books, but the challenges still compliment each other)

Read Around the World
This is an ongoing challenge, backdated from Jan 2015, to keep track of all the countries you visit in your female-authored reading. Just pick a shelf name for the challenge and any book on there with a read date of 2015 onwards will appear on your challenge.
Associated thread here

These are just the two 'official' challenges, but don't feel limited by them. Nobody is required to do any challenges at all, and people who want to set up their own challenges are very welcome to do so! Just visit the Challenge subform and make a new thread with your idea!

Karin I tried to join this, but it won't take a good shelf. The shelf I was able to get to work won't work because it includes men as well as women. What's the rule for putting a shelf there? I already have a women authors one (the other shelf is just as old, so it can't be that).

The shelf name has to be exact. I had to fiddle with mine to get it right.

Thanks. So women authors is not exact, but the other one must have been. Darn. I do NOT want to add another shelf or change how I shelve things if I don't have to. Back to the drawing board!

Elizabeth (Alaska) Try "women-authors" and see. GR shelf names have dashes in them.

Oh, I'll try that! I made one up with no dashes (2017 women) but would rather scratch that.

ETA That worked, so I wonder why the 2017 women one did when I didn't add a hyphen or dash?

Shelves add a hyphen wherever there is a space in the shelf name; my shelf named "read-women-a-z-2015" for example is actually typed: read women a z 2015

*edit to add* - also, after you make your shelf and go to start the challenge, you have to type in the shelf name WITH the hyphens in it. I just went through that myself, lol.

Okay, it's because it was new and not one I already had! Thanks!

Bonnie So I did this and it worked- basically I put a new shelf but then just picked 20 books off my tbr shelf or another shelf I plan to read this year that were by women and edited the shelves they were on to include this challenge. But, just curious. If I start and hate one, can I change the shelf. Can I delete some and add some different ones? Like ones this group read for instance - as long as I total 20 at the end of the year?

I just add the books to my shelf as I read them.

Bonnie thanks. I will add other book by women I read then, just in case I don't end up reading some of the ones I put already this year.

Suzanne | 22 comments I would enjoy books by Anne George being on the shelf. They are real funny and mysterious.
They are Southern Sisters Mysteries, I love them!
Kathy Herman is also good for reading I believe.
Have a nice day all of you!
