DO NOT leave hateful or hurtful comments.
DO NOT harass anyone in the group.
DO NOT be a jerk. There are enough of those in other groups.
DO encourage or give helpful criticism when asked.
DO give advice.
DO share what has helped you.
DO review an indie book and pay it forward.
DO drop your title if it adds to the discussion. Also feel free to drop it in the promotion thread.
This is a positive group created by Julie A. Gerber and Carole P. Roman, the authors of Navigating Indieworld: A Beginner's Guide To Self-Publishing And Marketing Your Book.

Thanks and if you don't like one we can talk it to death too. This is no dictatorship. hahahah

message 8: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments It's usually me that does that. I got quite well known in other circles for posting at length on a thread and practically killing an entire forum. It's a gift!

Sometimes tangents are not only valuable but fun. When I taught junior high, those were the best lessons. We can always readdress stuff or start new threads. I'm sure there's a billion gigabytes or whatever Goodreads needs to do that.

Love this group and the people who started it and who are in it. Don't have to feel as if you'll be chastised or have posts deleted constantly like other places. And most importantly people are actually here to help and do so every single day!

I know, but tangents are so frowned upon in some areas that I feel the need to hide under a rock or mouse mat, seeing as I'm typing. (There is no mouse mat by the way. Or rock for that matter. I digress. See? SEE??)

It's okay, we'll wait for you to get it all out of your system. We don't mind. We are all artists here!!!

Doesn't it feel like we're including everybody in our conversations now, Jules? It's like gmail just got expanded to the nth degree.

message 20: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee R.L., you are so right-on. I feel so comfortable here and not afraid of being deleted, or chastised because you have a different opinion.

Like Carole stated, "we don't just hug here". I'm still new, but I look forward to all the help I'm going to need, and to interact.

Exactly. I feel like everyone is extended family. People I can count on and vice versa. This is what support should feel like.

Exactly. On other threads, I never knew if people were going to be friendly or delete my posts because they don't agree. There is definitely a different atmosphere on the other threads unless I been unlucky this whole time and found myself in the wrong groups.

And Jooles, this s a forum for lots of ideas. We want people to tell us if they agree or disagree or perhaps have a better way to do something. We want people armed with the most information as they can get to make decisions to help sell their books. AND, it's okay if we disagree on issues- do you agree, it's okay disagree???

message 24: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments This definitely has a friendlier feel to it compared to other places I've been. And it feels less abrupt. Abrupt makes me want to hide under the mouse mat. (which I don't have)

message 25: by Justin (new)

Justin (justinbienvenue) Simple rules that I'm more than happy to follow. Glad to be a part of the group.

message 26: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee Amy, that's the word I was looking for. And in a very small way, it made the rest of my day tense, so I had to leave. Now I feel comfortable, and that's the way it should be.

You know I'm glad to see you here, Justin:)

Ember-Raine Winters (ember-raine_winters) | 186 comments I have a question. I need some help to get my little freebie price matched on Amazon. Is there a thread I can post that in? If it's not allowed that is fine just thought I would ask! Thanks!

Of course Ember. You can start a new thread if you don't find one that fits.

Hi Vicki, If you are an author, come join blog-go round and get your book up so we can meet you. We will be having all kinds of ways to promote your book. Watch the threads for announcements. If you are a reviewer, let us know what you like to read and if you'd be interested in reading any of the great and diverse authors here.

Paulette L. Jones (ladyp618) | 3 comments Does anyone have advice on how to keep the worlds separate? By that I mean I loooovvveeeee to read....But I find myself triple checking to make sure I am not somehow mixing something I read in my work this makes the process ten times longer lately. That's an interesting question Paulette. I haven't had that problem- I write children's books but I read adult fiction. I read a lot of indie work and it's not something I notice- that the books resemble each other. Each person I've read has such distinct voices. I have that more with traditionally published work- sometimes I read an author and they edit the crap out of his book. After a while all the books by that author sounds the same.

message 38: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee Carole makes a good point. I haven't had that problem, either. I wish I could help with that.

By the way, welcome Paulette and Sojourner (what an interesting and beautiful name:)

Its one that has had me thinking to much I think lately as I've truly developed my voice in writing. I feel stronger but in the back of my mind I'm thinking is that because I just read a, b, or c....but so far so good.

Great having you here.
I once read that in order to be a good writer, you have to be a good reader. OR maybe a writing teacher told me that. I think of reading as research. I write reviews on other people's books and consider them practice.
