SciFi and Fantasy Book Club discussion

After Deathly Hallows part 2 movies, I thought nothing would happen in Harry Potter world, but I was wrong.

I am seeing lots of new contents, but I am confused. Can anyone please clarify?

There's this Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them new edition with several new beasts and then there's screenplay. What's this screenplay? Do we have a new movie?

Also, what's Cursed Child? Is this a movie based on existing story or have we got new story too? Is the Cursed Child book a new story book or screenplay?

Also, please suggest the reading/watching order of new books/movies.

the screenplay is for a movie released last year starring Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, the author of the previously released book (original Fb book)

The Cursed Child is a glorified (but unfortunately sanctioned) fanfiction and no need to read that one since it was ridiculous, unoriginal, repetitive and full with character assassination (Inc. Hermione).

Reading order? I don't see any, you can read whichever unless you want to collect all editions, revised, definitive, whatever. if you want to spend your money of course.

I would actually suggest reading the History on Ilvermony in Pottermore released prior to the FB movie. Now THAT's a good content, very JKR.

Cursed Child is fanfiction? I thought Rowling was involved... Also, what do you mean that it was sanctioned?

It means Rowling have it her blessing and recognised it as canon.

Yeah the author asked JKR for her approval. even tho she contributed a little, I am still amazed that she allowed such storyline. maybe because it looks good on stage. I refuse to see it as the 8th story. Not my canon.

There some few contents also in Pottermore, three short stories (also sold as ebook in Amazon) about Hogwarts history, familiar characters etc. just google it or look in Goodreads. they were ok but most if not all are in Pottermore.

Let's be clear here. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the stage play for a theater production currently staged at the West End Palace Theater in London. The script was written by Jack Thorne with the story credit going to J. K. Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany. It is set 19 years after the events of the Deathly Hollows. Should Rowling have considered this the 8th book? Probably not. But she did. However, the Fantastic Beasts movie screenplay was written by Rowling and is set before the Harry Potter series. There will probably be a total of five films in Fantastic Beasts series.

Five movies? Do we have that long story?

Yeah, I'm a huge HP fan and have read books 1-7 several times each, but for some reason I have absolutely no interest in any of this new stuff...

The FB story is entirely new material written for the movies. So far JKR has published the screenplay for the first movie but we know nothing about the rest of the series.
