I was talking with Anna, "Adventures with A Book Nerd," on her reread of Serenity but didn't want to clog her posts with something I wanted to tell her, so I thought I would bring it here to share with whoever is interested!
Other authors may know what I am saying :)
The original manuscript of Serenity was written in past tense. I preferred it that way but it didn't work for where the series was headed, so I rewrote it even though I find it easier to pull at readers heartstrings when writing past tense. Past tense is my favorite, I feel more poetic when writing while a character's contemplates. I am personally an analyzer of my own life, so it comes most natural to me to look back and ponder. Therefore, in my opinion, the character Serenity had more depth in the original version but she had to take a hit for the sake of the series.
