Holly (dreamingof) I enjoy Patricia Briggs, Faith Hunter, Thea Harrison, GA Aiken, Dianne Duvall I follow the j d Robb series, I usually can always read them.
I am looking for similar authors.

I have read Jacqueline Frank, JR Ward, Anne Bishop, Jeanine Frost, C E Murphy. And some others. They are not my favorites, I like them but rarely reread them. I read so much that I have to reread.

Right now I am on a urban fantasy/paranormal/si if type stuff.

I am looking for a good read. I also prefer audiobook. Not exclusively but I drive a lot

Mlpmom (Book Reviewer) (mlpmombookreviewer) | 839 comments Ann Charles! I love LOVE her Deadwood Mysteries. It is so much darn fun and has just enough mystery, romance, humor, and action to please as well as a slight paranormal (gets stronger as the series goes) twist to it that it makes it even better. Plus all of her books are super inexpensive compared to others.

I've read most of the authors you mentioned and while a lot of them are favorites, Ann has quickly become one as well.

Elizabeth Wheeler | 386 comments Just found a new author (new to me) Darynda Jones. She is the author of the Charlie Davidson series. It's a great series. I highly recommend it.

K. Lincoln (kbirdlincoln) | 10 comments If you haven't tried Ilona Andrews yet...I highly recommend Kate Daniels Series. (and second the Amanda Bouchet recommendation, she's a hoot.)

Nevada (vadatastic) | 53 comments I just found the Shelley Laurenston series The Crows. These books The Unleashing and The Undoing cracked me up, I would seriously bust out laughing while reading. They also have the advantage of ethnic heroines, and well-written, euphemism free sex scenes. I've become a big fan and highly recommend these books.

Leah | 1 comments Ok these two are both sort of outliers. I have only read four or five of the authors you mentioned but felt somewhat similar to what you describe about them, so I thought maybe you would like these others that I liked:
Claiming the Prince trilogy by Cora Avery ("Book" 1,2 and 3, NOT "Part" 1,2,3 etc. They were first published in installments, so that is what the "Parts" are.) There are some racy scenes up front in these books, but (,or "and," depending on your view on racy scenes) the world and plotline are AMAZING. I tore my hair out waiting for books 2 and 3 to be published. Have you ever seen that French movie, "Love Me if You Dare"? It's like that, wound up in the middle of a high fantasy plot that rivals the feel of Star Wars or Lord of the Rings for realism. I cannot imagine anyone into fantasy not liking this series... as long as they weren't offended by the racy bits.

Lois McMaster Bujold's two "speculative fiction" series either Chalion or The Sharing Knife. She is apparently more of a sci fi writer normally. I got into this one as an audio book while driving and it took me by surprise. It is unusual writing-- really high-quality and detailed writing, but then it surprises you with its light spiritedness. The audiobook reader was this old 80's sounding guy who was distracting me a bit, but as soon as I reached my destination I ditched the audio version and devoured the ending of each book, then listened to audio of the second book on the way home. They are really slow-paced books in a way, and focused on the human beings more than the action, but really interested me. These books were more unusual and I'm less sure if they are what you are looking for or not. But they worked for me! And I come here to comb for new authors periodically too. Happy hunting!

Oh and another oldie but goody is Sunshine, by Robin McKinley.

K. Lincoln (kbirdlincoln) | 10 comments Sunshine by Robin McKinley is one of my most favoritest books ever. It has vampires....but I even recommend it to my friends who don't like vampires. As long as they like cinnamon buns:)

I like her G A Aiken series Dragon Kin. I have read S.L. mane event on audio books. I will have to try to read it I think the narrator did not engage me

message 16: by Cara (new)

Cara (wodehouse71) | 5 comments Try Donna Grant's Dark Kings series (similar to Thea Harrison) and anything by Nalini Singh, especially Psy-Changeling series. Also I loved the previously mentioned Amanda Bouchet for fantasy, and also try Light Blade series by Kylie Griffin.

Eman | 7 comments Hmm, my fav so far is Kresley Cole...i read the first book ages ago, so maybe i loved it at that time and won't likw it now,but i am still into the series and i still love it,so i can attest to it being better as the series progresses.Give it a try.I absolutely love it.I have read some of the authors u have mentioned, and i have loved some , but wasn't really impressed by others.
