Not Hannah, but jumping in. Bookcon day, if you are going, go EXTRA early. I believe we got there 1 hour early every day, and were still in 'middle' of the line. Early enough to be confidant we would get where we wanted, but not first in line.

It was good chill time too, because we could plan our day then too. We would get the 'newspaper' for the day, see what changes there were or new drops announced, and make sure our goal/plan was set.

We stay with my MIL, in PA. She's 1 hr from the Javits, but if we left 2 hours before doors opened, we got caught in MAJOR traffic. We had to get up at 2/3am every day, to beat rush hour. We'd get there at like 5am. ;-) It was better than showing up at 10!

It all depends on how long you want to wait in line and if you want to be one of the first on the floor. If you're not a morning person, 6AM probably isn't a good idea and it's a long day so I would say later than that.

I showed up each morning around 6:30 - 6:45 a.m. Doors opened at 9. I was always pretty close to the front of the line, but never the first one. I passed my time by looking through the PW show issue for the day, reviewing my schedule, planning my day, eating breakfast and talking to others around me.

Wow, I totally missed this.

I like being first and I always get jittery the morning of BEA, so I was usually up anyways. It depends on you as a person - if you need to be first, then plan to be there at 6:30. If you don't really care then show up at 8. If you REALLY don't care, show up at 9:20 (doors open at 9 and the first rush clears out by then).

Personally, my first BEA, I was too wired to not be first in the door.

Lexie (poisonedrationality) | 657 comments Mod
Benefits of being early usually include: great line buddies, the ability to sit and peruse each other's schedules to see if you missed anything, chatting, pictures, getting to know the security folks so they back you up when some folk try to cut in line after rudely proclaiming "you people" haven't been attending long enough to understand how important they are.

Britt (kalebsmome) | 32 comments Thanks again guys!! I'm getting the best tips and I am totally not afraid to pull the accidental on purpose trip for line cutters. That doesn't fly with me lol

Honestly Britt some of us don't' remember what sleep is during BEA (which is my life always so welcome to only club where I'm President for Life). Between getting up early to go to the show, staying up to either do Book Nerd things or gab with your roommates or catch up with your friends or just see NYC...well. BEA isn't for the narcoleptic! ;)

Marcilia | 111 comments For some reason, I didn't post our recaps on here...so better late than never. Hope it's helpful to anyone going for the first time. :)
As for sleep...yeah...for those of us that get "excited energy" we can manage on 4-5 hours...sometimes less. You can sleep when you get home...while laying in your bed surrounded by books.

Seriously, I had a 1 year old who wasn't sleeping through the night last year at BEA. After getting home, playing with her, getting her to bed, and again in middle of the night, I think we got like 3-4 hours of sleep every night.

But I was super hyped at BEA. BOOKS!!!!!

I subscribe to the Jessie Spano way of life while at BEA:

Caffeine pills in the morning/day
Benadaryl pills to make me sleep at night

Because I'M SO EXCITED!

Instead of the Benadryl, I take Advil PM - helps me sleep AND aleviates the back pain from lugging around ALL THE BOOKS! :)
