When talking to the Reverend it was like he didn't even listen to Fridrick's confession and just made up what he thought happened. To live during the 1800's would have been scary.
Also to listen to the Agnes's history and what she has been through. Her step-mothers death along with the babies death. And then to hear about Sigga's appeal, I still get the feeling that there is way more to the murder and how it occurred. Maybe Sigga isn't sweet and innocent but plays it up.
I am very interested to see how it all plays out. It is horrible that the District Commissioner can do what he has done. I was so frustrated reading that part of the last few chapters and it has stuck with me. Agnes has really had no chance.
Like you, Wendy, I got so frustrated with the commissioner. He was so single-minded and out to get Agnes. He is so set on making a point and refused to dig for the whole truth but assumed the worst in her. Drunk on power. Ugh. Not a fan.
I love every time we get a glimpse into Agnes' past. But I'm not sure what to make of Reverend Toti having somewhat romantic feelings for her. I hope that it doesn't develop into anything. I guess it must be hard when he's hearing her story and feeling compassion to confuse that with deeper feelings.
I'm starting to not like Natan either. I have this sense that he was just an awful person and yet clearly Agnes loved him. I'm very eager to learn the rest of the story.

Agnes is still my favorite, even though her life circumstances have made her pretty pessimistic. I really like Toti still too; he tries so hard to get through to Agnes and it seems like in his heart, he truly means well and wants to prove himself.
It was so sad to learn about Agnes' childhood. And like I've said a bunch of times before, I'm on the edge of my seat to find out exactly what happened with Natan!
