Sandra Neily I found out compound 1080 (I used it as a wolf killer in my novel), is real! Odorless, colorless, just a teaspoon in water kills hundreds, and despite legislative attempts that see its terrorist potential, is still used by U.S. government to kill predators ranchers out west want removed. ("Deadly Trespass" out this month.)

took out a patent on using the signals from the pulsars that he and his team had discovered for spacecraft navigation. I e-mailed him and asked for permission to use this in one of my novels, and he allowed me to do it. That is why my 80-footer spaceships carry a receiver called the "Hewish Box" as an ultimate backstop navigation system.
