message 1: by Ions (new)

Ions a coworker (at my suggestion last fall) recently began reading the kingkiller books. A few days after he started NotW he told me while we were working, and we talked for hours about it (though he had only just gotten kvothe to the university...I'm pretty sure kvothe hadn't even been whipped yet).
at the start of the year I pledged to [listen to] 35 NEW books... so I wouldn't be counting any re-reads. I had to force myself not to return to my all time favorites(Kingkiller, Warlord Chronicles, and American Gods) for fear it would set me back too far in my goal... but damn that man! after hours of talking about the book, and wanting to give him good accurate information when he asked questions...I added to books to my mp3 player and just gave into my base desire!
but unlike the past times I [listened] to them, I managed to work a new book between the two ...so he could catch up. I was finally able to get through the first Mistborn book (third [attempt] pays for all :P) .

granted this has nothing really to do with unraveling mysteries of the series... it's just a testament to the power of the story, and wanting to share the experience with my dear friends!

Manda | 115 comments I know what you mean, Ions! I have quite a few audiobooks at this point but I go back to KKC a disproportionate amount of the time. Sometimes I listen to the whole thing and sometimes I find a favorite scene. Or even a random scene. They are too good!

Brandon Johnston (d20dad) | 19 comments I've listened to them 4 times in the last year. The narrator is one of the best I've ever experienced.

Andrea Fitch (skinnypigannie) | 3 comments I am that coworker, glad to finally be here on my own behalf

Stephen Richter (stephenofskytrain) | 29 comments Get a MP3 player, load it with Audio books, then go for a run, walk or bike, you will find yourself going a little extra long just to continue the read.

Agree with this. I accidentally increased my running route by a mile and a half because I wasn't ready to stop listening!

These are particularly good. The reader is phenomenal.

Ions it's the best way to learn how the locations and names pronounced... also you have an easier time catching the wonderful moments when kvothe breaks into verse

Ions damn mobile...

any way, there is an "are" missing from that last post... feel free to add it mentally

Amanda | 5 comments I don't have time to read very much but Audiobooks are my saviour as when I'm driving or doing tasks that don't require much mental effort I can listen to a book. As for KKC I have them in Kindle form, book form and English Audio Book. Rupert Degas is brilliant. :)

Ions Rupert is great, though I haven't heard his version of WMF, only NotW

I'm the same as you. Shouldn't re-read again but it's been over a year since I last read and it's almost the end of this year so I'm going to!

Perhaps we should organise a reading group in here.

Japhia | 66 comments I've been using audio books and have loved it. Definitely going to add kkc to my audio book list!

Stephen Richter (stephenofskytrain) | 29 comments I did a re-read of Name of the Wind through the Sword & Laser book of the month pick back in September. I was going to wait until the announcement of Book Three publication date, which should give me time to do a re-read again of everything.
