Pixel | 5 comments Hi guys !

I've had the good/bad luck to read these three series the last two weeks. Good because how many times do you find three series that are perfect for you in one week and bad because now I'm in a readersblock seriously everything I've read since then just doesn't compare or interests me so I've come here to ask some help. Do you know any series like these ?

I've already read girl from above by Pippa Dacosta (another one of my favourites), Galaxy unknown by Thomas deprima and in fury born by David Weber (simply perfect though I do like some romance in my books). As you can see I like heroines to be a bit more than human (or not human at all)not only on a physical level but a mental level too, they're strong women who deal with their emotions not just forget the hell they went through after one week like so many other books, they struggle with the changes but once they've adapted to them they're kickass. So if you have any suggestions please let me know. Thank you!

Anna Erishkigal (annaerishkigal) Hi Pixel!

Have you scoped out the
Space Opera with Female Protagonists and a Bit Of Romance
listopia yet? It's full of recommendations for books that contains a blend of 'women's fiction' in space, which is what it sounds like you are looking for (internal issues + external kick-butt). You may find what you're looking for there.

Pixel | 5 comments Hey,

Yes i already looked at it but thanks anyway :), I do think it's a bit dated because none of these books are in it or do they routiniously update it ?

Caitlin | 196 comments Hey Pixel! You might scope out the Star Doc series by S.L. Viehl if you haven't read it. The protagonist is a physician and half Native American woman who gets a job on a colony world treating human and alien residents. The first volume is one of my favorite books, and the sequels were pretty good too (tho I still have to finish it). :)

Pixel | 5 comments Hi Caitlin, yes i already read the first book i liked it but it isn't one of my favourites, Viehl's worldbuilding is quite amazing isn't it ? I always liked how everything felt so real the different species, their characters and interactions, world and environment. Yes it's a very interesting book but i like a bit more fast-paced action with big guns , explosions and some macgyver-esque actions :p but books such as this one are always good for a change of pace and makes you appreciate a truly well written book.

Caitlin | 196 comments Yeah, Star Doc is not as heavy on the run-and-gun action or space battles as other series. I love that stuff too. :)

I adore Viehl's worldbuilding, the aliens are believable but diverse at the same time and it has some nice political commentary, what with Earth being somewhat xenophobic, without being too heavy handed as I recall.

Trike | 777 comments You might like the Mageworlds series by Debra Doyle and James D. Macdonald. The first one is The Price of the Stars.

My elevator pitch would be: “Imagine Princess Leia as Han Solo.” It’s action-packed.

Official description:
Freebooter at heart, spacer by trade, Beka Rosselin-Metadi doesn't want to hear about her father whose rugged generalship held back the Mageworlds -- or her highborn mother whose leadership has held the galaxy together ever since.

Beka pilots spacecraft -- as far from her famous family as possible, thanks very much. Then Beka's mother is assassinated on the Senate floor, and her father offers her Warhammer, prize ship from his own freebooting youth -- if she'll use it to deliver the assassins to him "off the books."

Looking for assassins has a tendency to make assassins look for you. In short order Beka's arranged her own very public death and adopted a new identity; now all she has to do is leave a trail of kidnappings and corpses across five star systems, and blow the roof off the strongest private fortress in the Galaxy. If her own family can just get off her case long enough...!
