I don't really count points but I have only played a few times. I do like the challenge of finding the words that start with the letter - eg. Chocolate- Truffle.

I hope that helps, Sharon. I will play this month - no matter what is chosen.

Niki | 227 comments I have only played one month (February) so I can't say much about it, but I didn't count points for myself this month either. I like finding the words or items and just accomplishing that! : )

message 3: by Joann (new)

Joann The first part of the game is great since it really helps me select books off my TBR list to read in the month.

I love the 'real' game of scattergories, so like to find a word starting with the chosen letter that fits the category as that's how the board game works. That being said, I think the categories have to be general enough for that to work. i.e. a flower, a food item, a city, etc. If it's too specific it may be hard to find.

I don't think the points is necessary, I just like try to find all the items. I think part of the reason it's been confusing is how to calculate the points.

Just my 2 cents, and will be happy no matter what you choose to do!

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

I didn't count points last month and found it much less stressful. I do like the challenge of trying to find a word that begins with the given letter but I also like the option of just finding the actual word as sometimes there are just no words that fit the category beginning with the letter of the month. Why not leave it as either option, (keeping the rule that there must be a word that begins with the relevant letter in the same sentence if you just find the actual word) and just drop the points.

Cheryl La Pa (cheryllp) | 120 comments I use the points system, but am happy with or without it. Maybe just have it as an option for those that like more of a challenge?

I stopped counting the points because I'm still struggling with getting it completed :'D To me it's much more important / interesting managing to fulfill the tasks than scoring the points, I find more challenging finding all the items than keeping track of the points.
