Mark Sohn (httpgoodreadscommarksohn) | 17 comments Who is your favourite Sherlock Holmes author?, besides, of course, Sir. Arthur Conan Doyle... Anthony Horowitz has taken the spotlight recently with his House of Silk/Moriarty books, but I actually prefer Michael Kurland's Moriarty series. For me, Horowitz 'does' better plots, but Kurland's descriptive power leaves him in the shade. I must confess, non-ACD Holmes literature is a new field for me (Even though my own book is due out soon) and apart from Nicholas Meyer's fabulous 'The Seven Percent Solution' I've not read all that many. All recommendations gratefully received!.

Zoe Radley | 558 comments I am totally in love with Laurie R King as she doesn't take herself or her stories seriously and they are such believable stories jam packed with action and suspense. I also love all the pastiches that have been published by titan books "the further adventures of Sherlock Holmes series" they too are also good fun

Very nice question. I have a shelf filled with non Conan-Doyle Sherlock novels, all by various authors.

Here's a couple of lists I've found:

Angel | 24 comments Besides Sir Arthur Conan Doyle I'd have to say Pennie Mae Cartawick who does an excellent job.

Me; Homeless. Four years. Lost EVERYTHING; all the books. Crate after crate of them. Four years on, I get flat; I build two sets of bookshelves flanking the fireplace. Then, I buy two full-length bookshelves from a bookshop that was re-locating. I marry-a woman who reads lots of books; now I've shared the cases so I build a wall-unit out here in the Hallway where my study/man-cave is located. Its ALREADY full up to the ceiling... do I A: Think of scaling down the library or B: Start to work out how I'm going to tell her I need a wall of the bedroom?... Yep!.

I'd rather throw some of her shoes out than my books. Okay, I'll re-phrase that; the shoes stay and the books don't get burned!...

No, problem! I think you'll like her books about Holmes. She does a really good fictional take of the fictional character and keeps the natural essence of Holmes in the process. Hey, I like that name "Sphere of Holmes"

I ran out of space a long time ago and have books everywhere. I have to say that as long as the stacks on the floor stay in my office, my husband has been very, very good about the whole thing.

When I became homeless I walked away from a LOT of furniture, some of it worth a fortune, a lot of bone china, clothes, two new Sony Televisions... video recorders etc etc and etc. The local authority lied by omission, 'accidentally' failing to tell me I was entitled to storage facilities on the State... as I'd worked my whole adult life I had no idea how Social Security worked here in the UK and left with little more than the jacket on my back and my late Mum's dog. Well... it all turns full-circle, life is a wheel and sometimes you get stuck on the outside spinning round helplessly, sometimes you are the hub and at peace. That's ALMOST where I am today (Apart from my office chair breaking last week and throwing me onto the floor in a painful heap)... and I am surrounded by books, my silent friends and comfort. Mrs. S has had a terrible life herself and reads horrific stories of abuse and survival by other women, perhaps seeking some light into her own past darkness... she too uses books for solace. Heavy?, perhaps, off-topic?; that's me!... Take Care!.
