Week # 10
Task: 7. Cozy sleuths. Read a book from one of the following lists:
Book: Grimm's Furry Tail by Kathi Daley
Read: 05/18/17
Page numbers: 188
Qualifies: Book #73, Page 1 of Cozies with Romantic Subplots
Rating: 4
Review: Truth be told, I wasn't really expecting much from this short KU selection. But I was pleasantly surprised, it was a solid read. Cody and Cait need to not go stirring up the pot and drudging up old stories, you might be sorry what you awaken. I will have to go back and read the first two in the series, since I jumped ahead and started with Book 3 here.

Oops. i guess I didn't post that. I finished it awhile ago.

Week # 8
Task: 10. We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen is a well-known children's book. Read a book featuring kids/children from one of the required lists
Book: Charming the Prince by Teresa Medeiros
Read: 05/13/17
Page numbers: 354
Qualifies: Book 27, Page 1 on Historical Romance with Children in the plot
Rating: 3
Review: I don't know if it just wasn't right timing on my part or what, but I just couldn't get into this story. I usually really enjoy getting lost in children's fairy tale type books. It gives you a chance to escape adulthood. I think I'll revisit at least parts of this again in the next few months and see if perhaps it was just my crazy life was not allowing me to get drawn in. The makings are their, girl left with dad, along comes the step mom...who had an entire army of children already and of course looks/acts icily towards Willow. WIllow needs to escape,,, yada yada. Reviews by others seem very mixed so maybe my drudgery wasn't misplaced.

Option 2

Rating: 4 stars
Review:
That's exactly why I love all my challenges here on GR so much. When you search for the right books you always find new reading material and sometimes even to you new authors. This is what happened to me with this entertaining short story. I didn't know either the book or the author before and I'm glad to say that I really enjoyed it.
It's short, so there's not much character development or depth but I didn't miss it.
I connected with the MCs and the story right from the start. There's witty dialog, hot role play, some romance and a touch of mystery.
Looking forward to reading more from this author. :)

Whoops!! I'll change my post.

Option 1

Finished 5/19/17 - 3.5 stars
This was a good introduction to what looks like will be a good series. As often happens with novellas I think it would have been improved by being fleshed out and turned into a full-length novel, there were some things I would really liked to have seen. Even so, there was enough to get to know and like both the main characters and some of the secondary characters, so in that I think it achieved its purpose. It was enjoyable enough that I'm moving the next book in the series a little higher on my TBR! Bumping to 4 stars for GR.

Yeah, and it works again! :)
Now I only need enough time to read! RL should really respect how important our challenges are.........

So if you dont want to read a book for this week, you dont have to.
See you for the next round.

Bookcover/link: Winter Kill
Rating: 3 stars
Review: This was an average read in general, but less than what I expect from Lanyon. There were several interesting mysteries going on, but none of them got the development they deserved. We eventually knew who killed who, mostly, but the motivations felt glossed over. The romance didn't get the development it deserved, either. And one of the heroes didn't feel like a Lanyon hero *at all*. I mean, I liked the character, and I rooted for him. But he was weirdly goofy in fits and starts. It felt like those bits came out of nowhere and didn't mesh with the rest of the character. I don't know if the author plans to write anything more on these characters, but there is a very loose tie-in with the All's Fair series. The way the romance wraps up- sort of settled, but not really- reminds me of the way I felt about the end of the first book in that series, so maybe there's more to come here, too.

So if you dont want to read a book for this week, you dont have to.
See you for the next round."
