Lexa stepped out from her truck, breathing in the scent of horses and leather. It soothed her agitated nerves, and she felt within her as Sister stepped back from the forefront, content to give Lexa the lead so she wouldn't upset the equines. She dusted the stray wolf hair off of her tan riding pants, adjusting the hem at her knees into the tops of her black boots. Her gaze in the window reflection still held more gold than green, but there was nothing she could do about that. Sister would settle down when she was ready. When she was sure she looked more put together than she felt, she stepped away and towards the giant open doors of the stables.
Horses neighed a greeting to her from the pasture and pens, and she felt that soothe over another hitch in her attitude. She hadn't meant to snap at one of her newer wolves, but he should know by now what it meant to meet her gaze. She hated dominance games, but the pup needed to be put into his place. When she stepped into the tack room, she tried to ignore the way the stablehand- another lower ranking wolf in her pack- rushed out to leave her alone.
