Randy Harmelink | 1098 comments I only got to watch the first hour, which pretty much mimicked the movie. Although I did miss the escalator and McDoogal's gaffs. :)

I just caught the start of the big change-up at the end of the first hour, so I'll have to watch the second hour on Hulu. I hope it does more with the source material, as I was getting bored.

Paul (paullev) | 829 comments It definitely gets better in the second hour.

Randy Harmelink | 1098 comments The one thing I did get a big kick out of was the bargaining at the pawn shop. As soon as the shop owner offers $12,000, the Ripper immediately counters with $20,000. Even though he has no idea what it might be worth, other than the offer that was made. But that was smooth... :)

Randy Harmelink | 1098 comments Watched the second hour. Not impressed, but I'll keep watching for a bit. The movie had such a perfect conclusion of the Wells/Ripper confrontation. I was disappointed they didn't have it in the TV show.

But then there would be no reason to have more episodes.

However, it would appear that time travel is NOT to be an ongoing factor of the show? I'm not sure there is much to bring me back if it's just going to be a long chase after the Ripper. And we know that Wells himself will not be in danger at any point. Not without a major paradox occurring.

Randy Harmelink | 1098 comments Oh, another thing -- why didn't Jane kill the RIpper when she had the chance?

The coming attractions for episode 4 show travel from the present back to 1980.

Randy Harmelink | 1098 comments So much for H.G.'s allegation of punching too many holes in time close to each other could shred the fabric of time. They keep punching two holes right next to each other.

BTW, they already have changed history -- Jane was supposed to be a victim of the Ripper in the current day. Unless they will be doing the same trick they did in the movie.

Paul (paullev) | 829 comments Yep - saw that - I disagree completely with the quoted Variety review. But, easy come, easy go.

Steven | 40 comments I liked JTR, he was wonderfully vicious, H G Wells on the other hand was really bugging me.

Doc | 34 comments I haven't watched it. I find that I can't summon up any interest in yet another remake.
Ditto for "MacGyver."
