Zara's Retreat Hello everyone.

I want to try something a bit different re the selection of books for the monthly group read. I'm opening this up to the group.

Instead of me selecting three books from the bookshelf, I would love for our group members to nominate books.

This is how it works:

1. A member nominates One book only (members are quite welcome to second a nomination but that will count as your one nomination);

2. I will then set up a poll for the nominated books;

3. People will then go and vote for their choice;

4. Then the top 1 or 2 books will become our monthly group reads.

Dates to remember :
You will have until the 15th June to make your nominations. I will then open the poll for voting until the 20th June and hopefully I'll have the results posted by the 21st or 22nd June. I hope this will allow people enough time to access the book before the beginning of the next month.

Happy Nominating

Cheryl (cherylllr) Spoon River Anthology - I have the audio version on my MP3 player but haven't gotten around to listening to it. IIRC, it's one of those 'full-cast audio' presentations. I got it from my library.

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) | 17 comments Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon
I've had it for a while, but have been nervous about the time investment (length)... I've heard great things, though!

Great choice Alana. This is an awesome audio-book. I read it a while ago and really enjoyed it. I can understand the time investment thing though. It's not for the faint hearted.

Robin P I'm on Chapter 7 of the audiobook Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon right now and would love to discuss. It is 33 hours on audio which is going to take me a while.

I have favorite and unfavorite times and places for historical novels. I am attracted by the more sophisticated settings, such as London or Paris in the 18th to early 20th century. I'm not immediately attracted to more rustic settings like the American West, the Middle Ages, or rural Scotland, where this is set. But there are always exceptions!

I'll discuss the Outlander series anytime! Waiting for my hold on the audio version of Written in My Own Heart's Blood at the library. I should go back and listen to Echo again - the constant thread switching had me struggling to stay focused, but I think I'll make do with reviewing a synopsis. Time to reread the whole series when #9 comes out. Have you read these before, Robin?

Zara's Retreat Considering there seems to be so much interest in reading Outlander would people be happy to have this as our group read for July/August rather than taking it to a poll?

Good choice! Perhaps this will inspire me to read Book 2 at the same time (I read Book 1 last summer).

Zara's Retreat consider it our next group read then.

Kay | 7 comments I also love Outlander. This is especially timely with the TV series debuting this summer. Hoping (as someone else mentioned) it will inspire me to listen to the next in the series, Dragonfly in Amber. I started it but got distracted. The ratings are very high therefore it must be very good, right?

Hi Laurel, I started this book back around 1990 when it was new,but barely got to the time travel part before I stopped. The funny thing is that in rereading/listening, I had absolutely no memory of any of it. One reason I came back to it is because I knew you loved it so much.
