Plot Hole...?

Julia I have read this book at least six times, and there is one thing that sticks with me as a plot-hole: the Triwizard Cup as a Portkey. Barty Crouch Jr.'s intentions are to get Harry into the graveyard on the night that Voldemort is ready to regain "human" form. He intends to do this by having Harry touch the Cup first and be transported. This is essentially what he did:
-Kidnapped Mad-Eye Moody and kept him alive for months, while constantly brewing fresh Polyjuice Potion for his transformation
-Bewitched the Goblet to choose Harry as a champion
-Showed Harry the dragons, along with some help from the Weasleys and Hagrid
-Told Harry to use his broom to retrieve the egg, even though Harry's life would be at risk fighting a dragon
-Convinced Cedric to repay Harry by first telling Cedric to open the egg underwater, who then told Harry to do the same
-Told Dobby (or Neville, in the movie version) to give Harry Gillyweed for the Second Task, in which Harry risks his life AGAIN in the Black Lake
-Bewitched Krum in the third task to prevent anyone from getting to the cup before Harry
Essentially his plan was to make sure Harry would touch a Portkey and go to Little Hangleton so that his blood could be used for Voldemort's rebirth. However he risks Harry's life SEVERAL TIMES in order to achieve this!! Yes, perhaps much like Apparating, Portkeys cannot be used on Hogwarts grounds, but if this is the case, could Barty not have just waited until his Dark Mark was burning and then taken Harry into Hogsmeade and made him touch a Portkey there?? I understand the Triwizard Tournament and the mystery of how Harry's name got in the Cup as a plot device and a way to set up fear for Harry's life, but in hindsight, it seemed like a really risky way to send Harry to the graveyard!!

Temeti Yeah, I agree it's all a bit convoluted.
What I get when I read it is that Harry is hard to get a hold off due to all the protection that has been place around him so a cunning plan was devised to get around that. Also Voldemort was trying to avoid Dumbledore's suspicion 'cause he's scared of him.
So yeah Crouch Junior probably could have knocked Harry over the head and taken him to a portkey but then Dumbledore may have seen what was going on. Though you could also argue that he knew or suspected what was happening and was using Harry as bait but that's a whole other discussion I think.

Samantha Although Harry's life was risked, if Harry were to get a life threatening injury, he would have been saved right away. There were many precautions put in place during the Triwizard tournament that would prevent the participants from getting hurt.

Although it is stated early that people have died in the tournament in the past!
