Ali Findley The most important scene in "Remarkable Creatures" was when Mary Anning and her brother Joseph Anning uncovered a giant crocodile fossil. This was most certainly the most important scene from this book. Discovering this fossil helped Mary Anning and her family have food on the table and it helped cover some of their debt. The Annings went through a rough couple of months before discovering the fossil. They were in a black hole of debt and their father, Richard Anning passed away from catching a cold while he was injured from a fall. Mary Anning had a very keen eye for fossils. Even though she was a great Paleontologist, it was a great surprise to the people of Lyme when they they heard about the great discovery because only small fossils were found in their town. Digging up the giant fossil was also a great discovery in their small town of Lyme. As soon as the fossil was dug up, it was soon sold to a wealthy man and placed in a museum in London for people to view. After placing the magnificent fossil in the museum, the Anning family gained some extra money and Mary also gained some recognition for her great fossil achievements. I absolutely Think that this was the most important scene of this book. Mary Anning and her family spent most of their lives working and looking for money to cover their debt and finding that fossil helped her family. This discovery also helped bring some happiness to the Anning family after their father’s death.
