*Spoilers* Which characters in the series do you wish had lived?

For me, I wish the Hound and Oberyn Martell had survived. They were intriguing characters with a lot of potential. And as for Catelyn, I know this sounds harsh, but I think her "survival" is silly.

Thoughts?

Yes, I read several interesting theories about Jon and the Hound being alive, or close to it.

About Lady Stoneheart, I think her reanimation was necessary to make a point, especially in contrast with the way that Catelyn was when she was alive. There are a few messages in the lack of humanity of the creature that she became, maybe about war, violence, blind revenge, severe trauma, pain.

GRRM has succeeded in making me take back some of my wishes. Like "Theon did what? Oh, I hope he suffers!" and then "Oh no, wait, I didn't mean like that!". And of course "Oh, I wish Catelyn were still alive" and then "Oh man! No, no, you can let her rest, like, now!". Kind of a monkey's paw.

Oh, but to answer your original question... I wanted Oberyn Martell to survive. Not just because of Tyrion's fate, but also because I was very interested in seeing the role of the Red Viper in the Small Council and its impact on the whole Dornish plot.

The Hound is most likely alive. Whether or not he'll appear again in the story remains to be seen, though.

Mitali He's pretty clearly alive. He's the big gravedigger on the Quiet Isle. ...more

I think everybody has hopes that Jon didn't die. *fingers crossed* I think that Ned was the death that ripped my heart into pieces though it was necessary. I enjoyed the character of the Hound and was even mad at Arya when she left him there though once again, it did leave a shadow of doubt over his death.

With the whole thing about Jon "dying" I think he is definitely alive, apart from Catelyn (who was brought back anyway) and prologue/epilogue characters a character never dies in their own chapter. The character I'm really worried about is Podrick Payne as he is my favourite and we still have no idea if he is dead or alive

I'm pretty sure Jon is alive.I find it hard to believe that GRRM would take all this trouble to create so much intrigue around his parentage and his future and then just kill him off.Sure,he's unpredictable. But he's not irrational. Also I badly wish that Oberyn had lived, but then I'd probably never get to know the Sand snakes and Arianne who i absolutely LOVE.

Khal Drogo was an awesome character I wonder how the story would had developed with him. I miss Robbert and Robb, they were really good characters, I'm not going to lament the Red Wedding but Robb should had time to redeem himself for that little slip. I loved how it parallels with Ned's death. The Old Bear was another interesting character, minor but I liked him as well as Jory. So many good characters dead, Tywin for one, the infamous Red Viper, even Jaime's hand. It made the story much more interesting with all these deaths yet we would mourn for them.

With Tywin gone and Cersei emasculated, the list of interesting bad guys has shrunk considerably. Jaime's flipped to the good side of the Force, Kevan is dead. Sigh... Oberyn will be sorely missed.

PS. The Hound is dead. Dead, like dead kind of dead.

Mitali No, the Hound is not dead. We never saw him die, for one thing. Arya left him dying, but the Elder Brother found him before he supposedly died. After ...more

I hope Jon isn't dead. I also hope they leave Ghost alone. Two dead direwolves are too many.

I cried when I read the red wedding. I don't know if I wept for Rob and Cat or the fact that Cat didn't have the chance to perhaps set things right with Jon--it wouldn't have happened anyways but it was a small hope. We just started to see her guilt about mistreating Jon...and then GRRM killed her...so, i wish Cat had lived.

I don't believe for a second that Jon is dead. All of his journeys at the wall just to end like that? Doesn't seem right. Robb and Catelyn were for sure the hardest to watch die but I think the death that affected the realm the most was Tywin Lannister. He was really the mastermind/head of the snake. Now that he is gone everything has changed. And since his death no one has really stepped up to take his place. (Although Cersie may have tried lol)

Presuming he's really dead, Jon Snow. I agree with you about Catelyn; I would much rather Rob survived. I'm ecstatic about Brienne.

If Arya goes, I seriously think I will never read another word he writes, and I'm usually a pretty forgiving reader.

Oberyn Martell, The Hound. And I do think he is dead.
