John Seymour Another close month for votes, but at the end of the day The Trial couldn't catch The Remains of the Day which is our April Popular Vote Winner. But then things got interesting as The Trial and The Summer Book tied for Weighted Vote and The Randomizer chose The Trial as our April Weighted Vote Winner. Finally, the 24 remaining books that received at least one vote and were eligible for The Randomizer were pitched in and The Randomizer chose Amerika as our Random Selection for April 2017.

To recap, our April 2017 BOTMs are:

Popular Vote Winner - The Remains of the Day, by Kazuo Ishiguro

Weighted Vote Winner - The Trial, by Franz Kafka

Random Selection - Amerika, by Franz Kafka

Sushicat gets sole credit for our Random Selection this month - being the only one to vote for Amerika.

So what are your reading plans for April? Will you be reading one or more of our BOTMs? Battling infinity? (That's just a little joke, it isn't that long.) Pursuing the mandate of heaven in 3rd century China? Let us know.

Pip | 1822 comments I'll try to read the Kafkas if Infinity ends, but I am so far behind with BOTM I may not succeed. My decision to give preference to Annual and Seasonal reads isn't very successful!

I feel like I won the lottery, a book I voted for and is on my shelf won. I will be reading The Remains of the Day and probably one of the Kafka's but not both. And Patrick's Labour selection.

I've read The Remains of the Day and won't do a reread though it is a really great book. I will read either The Trial or Amerika (the shortest probably) I think they are in the dropbox. I will continue with Infinite Jest. I am about 1/3 of the way so far. Not too horrible, some spots better than others. The buddy read at Litsy helps a lot.

Tracy (tstan) | 559 comments I'll try to read both Kafka books. The Remains of the Day is great, but I'm not going to reread. Still plugging through Infinite Jest, and hoping to tackle The Idiot. (No, not my husband.)

Diane | 2044 comments I just read Amerika about a month ago so I definitely won't be rereading it. I doubt that I will reread Remains of the Day either since I read it fairly recently, too. I will definitely read The Trial and start chipping away on Infinite Jest. I will also continue Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

Sallys | 38 comments Will try for all three but definitely The Remains of the Day.

John Seymour I read The Remains of the Day the last time it was a BOTM, 4 years ago, I think, and while I will re-read it eventually, not this year. I am giving priority, like Pip, to the Annual and Seasonal reads, and then to BOTMs from my shelf and I have neither of the Kafka's, so will focus on finishing Invisible Man (which I think I should be able to start this month), El reino de este mundo:, and Tender Is the Night. I will also try to read the next volume in Three Kingdoms in April.

Anita Pomerantz | 166 comments Wasn't totally enamored with The Remains of the Day the first time I read it, so not planning on a re-read there. I'll probably give The Trial a shot and maybe get started on Three Kingdoms.

Paula S (paula_s) | 220 comments I'll aim for The remains of the Day and The trial.

Having just started Infinite Jest, it will take me some time to get back to the BOTMs. I have yet to read Invisible Man; I will skip The Trial, having read it before, will definitely read Amerika (my last Kafka on the List) and Remains of the Day, most likely in late April. And, of course, the fourth Labour, which I should be able to post on Friday.

I will read both Kafka books, I have nearly finished the idiot and I am still lost somewhere in Infinity

Judith (jloucks) | 95 comments I didn't vote this time around because I am not able to read with the group while being the care-giver for a very sick friend in Greenville, South Carolina -- where I a now. Enjoy the choices, and I'll add the only one I have not read from the choices, Amerika, to my rather long Get-to-Later pile.

I do miss the discussions here, but have to be realistic and drop out for a while. Hope to be back before summer!
Cheers!

I have already read all three books so I'll be focusing on finishing Infinite Jest and the annual read. I love Kafka but he's definitely not for everyone and I look forward to seeing all you reviews. I was able to visit the Kafka museum in Prague a few years ago which was a wonderful museum.

Sorry to hear that you have a very sick friend. Best wishes to both of you. Care-taking can be really hard and s/he is lucky to have you there to help. I will be thinking of you.

Take care Judith, you are a blessing to your friend and you will be blessed. We will miss you and you will be in my thoughts waiting for your return to 1001/reading.

Becky I have The Trial on my shelf, so I'll be reading that for BOTM. I inherited this book from my mom and very excited to finally getting around to reading it.
