Hello everyone! Here is where you can ask anything about the point system as well as how to make it better. Are there a few things we can change to make the point system more understandable? Is there anything you'd like us to change? These are the kind of suggestions we're looking for.
At the end of each month, your suggestions will be considered if they'll make it into the point system. This topic will remain open just so you all can suggest things at anytime!

Make manga/comics worth less points. I think we agreed to 25 points per volume, no page or chapter points.

The reason she's saying when the list is updated is because it's myself and Lorien keeping track of points currently. I can't edit her posts, so I cannot update the overall point totals.

I was thinking a tiered system might help you guys. For example, Mod A counts monthly book read points, Mod B counts free read points, Mod C counts poetry points, etc. Mods A-C report point totals to Lorien, Lorien updates. Obviously one mod could handle more than one area of point counting cause we don't have enough mods to cover each way to earn points, but you get the idea.

That might be good. And sorry if my comment came across as rude. I'm blunt sometimes in writing so I'm not sure if it was taken that way. Just explaining what was currently happening. xD

I also like a suggestion of keep point totals per person - that way you know who is participating. And maybe award bonus points for the top point earners for each time.

I don't think it came across as rude, but I am also usually pretty blunt. :-)

Ooh, that's an interesting idea!

Yes! And I'm reposting my suggestion here.

I think it would be really fun if you chose from the prompts listed each month for the monthly prompt! You could submit too and the moderators could decide together! Also maybe points for the WW team for whoever wins the prompt comp each month :)

Not instead of the monthly writing competition. My thoughts were both would run and the winning prompt for one month would be the writing prompt for the writing competition next month. (Ex: Winning April prompt would be used for May writing competition)

So would the members be entering in entries like the Monthly Competition except this would be for prompts?

Coralie - Thank you! I love the idea of having more than one of more moderators working for the Point system. :-)

Yeah, so I think I'm still a little confused...there would be two writing competitions or just one? I understand the idea of winning prompt for prior month is used for writing competition the following month, but do you mean like, April prompt used for May Writing Prompt Competition as well as there's a separate May Writing Competition like normal or do you mean April prompt used for normal May Writing Competition?

Yay! Glad I could help, Lorien! And thank you for allowing me to become a mod! I'm super excited!

Lorien Rhys wrote: "So would the members be entering in entries like the Monthly Competition except this would be for prompts?"

Yes, but shorter.
Also, Coralie I did not follow that at all. Here:
April: A small prompt competition for short prompts for the May Writing Competition and also a normal April Writing Competition.
May: The winning prompt for April is used for the May Writing Competition and the prompt competition to be used for June starts.

I think it would be fun for people who don't have the time or aren't interested in writing long entries for the monthly competition or someone interested in doing more to have that to do each month. :) It would also just be fun to contribute to making up the prompts.

Also, possibly we just pick from the submitted ones each month to use and you don't have submit specifically for the month.

Also it would take a load off you, Lorien, having to write so many prompts each month for the poll.

Okay, I think I get it. (Sorry I was so confusing in my post!) Personally, I don't wanna give up the normal monthly writing competitions. I like how they are, but at the same time, I see the benefits of making it roll over like that and it would take some of the pressure off Lorien. Would it be too much to run two writing competitions separately?

Wayward Skyril | 425 comments [Um, butting in here >.<]

Coralie, the problem with having two writing competitions is that it would probably be confusing and unfortunately fail to take pressure of Lorien.

Here's an idea, though: have a prompt competition (in April), and have the winning theme be FEATURED along with three or four other themes Lorien creates for everyone to vote on for the competition (in May).

That way it's kind of both...

What I was saying was basically to have two competitions running. I personally don't see the confusion? You can write a small prompt for fun if you want as well as your normal writing competition entry. Also don't see the failing to take pressure off? She would have help writing the prompts and there are six moderators to help with the competitions.

message 16: by Wayward Skyril (new)

Wayward Skyril | 425 comments I believe Coralie was implying keep the regular writing competition as well as another writing competition using the winning prompt theme from last month.

Perhaps I read her comment wrong, though?

Yes, Skyril, that was what I was envisioning. You do make a point, though, about Lorien. Though, Catherine made a good point about more mods who can help manage them. I really liked the idea of featuring the winning prompt! It seems like the best of both worlds! I think having two competitions would be manageable by mods, but maybe not so manageable for members. Participation may drop or split between the two competitions. But we are growing, so maybe not?? Just a few thoughts from me :-)

Honestly I just think people who don't have time to write out an 1000+ entry would like to have a smaller contest they can enter in. So personally, I think this would encourage participation, not lower it.

Oh! That's an excellent point! Kind of like a mini competition!

I see your point, but I don't think I completely agree. I mean, no one has to enter in any of the competitions, but by providing more opportunities, people can choose from a variety. I like having options. I do keep my eye on several writing competitions in different groups. Now, I certainly can't participate in all of them, but I like having the option to choose which one inspires me the most while several are running. For instance, the prompt for June in this group just didn't give me any ideas, so I didn't compete. But a prompt in a separate group drew my attention and I was able to create a new story to add to my collection!
