The book you all took the time to vote for as the clear winner for April's Book of the Month is Heartless by Marissa Meyer by Marissa Meyer. This book covers the theme of Retellings and I've been meaning to read this one, and most of her other books but haven't had the chance. If you are like me and have yet to read this or if you have and just want to re-read or participate in the discussion, please join us here. Get ready to grab your copies to begin the first day of April.

Happy Reading!

Whoohoo Phoenix. I hope you love it.

message 8: by Farren (new)

Farren (mmmcookies) I read this a few months ago and liked it, but I didn't think it was as spectacular as all the reviews I had seen for it. I actually don't remember too much of it now except for key points and how over the top the audiobook narration was. I think it would make a pretty cool movie though.

I think it would be a good movie as well Farren. They have been making some really good movies out of books the past few years. I guess Hollywood is out of ideas.

Farren (mmmcookies) I love seeing books come to life, even if they change some stuff, so I'm cool with them running out of ideas =)

So far I'm finding it pleasant since I've only read 19% but enough to keep me interested. I'm definitely intrigued by the story and characters.

I didn't think it was quite that good, but I still really loved it! Its very different, although the writing's still superb. I like Marissa Meyer's writing!

I'm 32% in a finding it a little flat, not sure why but hoping it's because I was falling asleep while reading lol

It didn't WOW me either Jenny but I''m not one for retellings and I did enjoy this one. He writing is very good and I found myself laughing many many times. If a book can make me laugh then I tend to like it.

I hope it's because you are falling asleep Sylvia. I liked this one and I'm not real keen on retellings, as you know. However I did listen to it and that makes a big difference sometimes. If the narrator is good they can totally change the feel of a book.

I'm sorry that is happening to you Farren. That could be frustrating. I didn't have that problem and i usually do with retellings.

Me either Shaw. Retellings just don't do it for me however I was able to disassociate this one and rather enjoyed it.

Certified Book Addicts | 6 comments What an awesome book this was! It's rekindled my love of YA as I was getting bored with the same topics. You know, 16 year olds who are the only ones who can save humanity from aliens/vampires/plague etc etc whether it's on earth, in space or somewhere else! It was refreshing to read a novel about a girl who tried to fight her destiny, including marriage, and in the end there was no happily-ever-after. I love these background stories and I'm looking forward to reading Hunted by Megan Spooner.

I liked it enough but I personally thought it was overrated. I know how you feel though because I seem to be the only person who doesn't like this narrator. I didn't like her reading Caraval either.

I'm halfway and I think I'm going to shelve it. I just can't get into it or feel compelled to read on ugh this bothers me so much. I've tried several times to keep reading but I fall asleep every time but can stay awake for other books lol so you are not the only one.
