[April] The Lightning Thief, by Rick Riordan - Part 3 [spoilers]

I really enjoyed it, especially the humor that worked with me and the way the author mixed mythology with the modern world. The quest was less compelling, so it's a 4 stars.
2. Who was your favorite character and why?
In the team, I really liked Percy. In the antagonist cast, Aunt Em was a really fun ride.
3. Did you think Riordan used well mythology in this book?
Yes, in my opinion he was faithful enough to Greek mythology with the various creatures and gods, items and powers. Surprisingly, he also succeeded to use all of that in a modern setting that worked well for me and was fun to discover.
4. If you were demigod, who would you like as a Greek god parent?
I think I'd be more in the demititan side. I'd pick Theia as a mother so I could be sister with Helios, Selene and Eos.
5. Do you plan on continuing the series?
Yes, and I think I'll read everything by this author, I liked the humor and the positive messages.
My question: do you think the next book will use the same team?

I really liked it. It picked up a lot in the second half for me. The Underworld sequence was a real high point for me. It was a light, middle-grade American Gods, and I love American Gods.
2. Who was your favorite character and why?
Hades and Charon, especially Charon. I just enjoyed the Underworld generally as sleek, melancholy and misunderstood. I was really excited when Hades didn't turn out to be the bad guy.
3. Did you think Riordan used well mythology in this book?
The best part of the book was how on point it was with the mythology. I really enjoyed the Ares, Aphrodite, Hephaestus, cross-over with the tunnel of love. It was clever.
4. If you were demigod, who would you like as a Greek god parent?
I it were from the big twelve, I think I'd want to be the child of Apollo. Artemis is my favorite but she doesn't have kids so I'd go with the next best thing.
5. Do you plan on continuing the series?
I'm going to read at least the second one. From reviews it holds up to the first.
6. Zaz's Question: do you think the next book will use the same team?
It'll definitely have Percy and I hope Annabeth. I like their relationship and the banter between them. Grove is off finding Pan so maybe he'll make an appearance but he probably won't be there the whole time.
My question: what myth or character would you like to see in future installment that hasn't yet been tackled?

I enjoyed it. It was a light and entertaining read and I always enjoy mythology.
2. Who was your favorite character and why?
Other than Percy and Annabeth, I liked Hades. I could really empathize with him. I also thought Ceberus was really cute.
3. Did you think Riordan used well mythology in this book?
Definitely!
4. If you were demigod, who would you like as a Greek god parent?
I'd have to go with Athena, my favorite Greek goddess.
5. Do you plan on continuing the series?
Yup! I want to read his other books too.
6. What myth or character would you like to see in future installment that hasn't yet been tackled?
It would be cool to see Persephone. She was absent in this one. I wonder if the other heroes, like Hercules, would show up too. Oh and Pegasus!
My question: Out of the characters in this first book, whose story are you most interested in reading the continuation of and why?

1. What did you think of the book? I really liked it. It was a quick read and different from the movie so kept me guessing a little bit. It had a lot of fun parts in it as well.
2. Who was your favorite character and why? Grover I think added a lot to the book with what he ate and trying to hide his hooves, etc.
3. Did you think Riordan used well mythology in this book? I would say so. I'm not up on the Greek myths so it could be off.
4. If you were demigod, who would you like as a Greek god parent? I'm thinking Athena so I could be related to Annabeth.
5. Do you plan on continuing the series? I might. I have other series I want to continue with first however. My daughter has them all so at some point I probably will.
6. Answer the question posed by the person above you! I think I'm interested in Luke's story the most. I always wonders what makes people do bad things.
My Question: Would you stay at Camp Halfblood or go to regular school?

My Question: Would you stay at Camp Halfblood or go to regular school?

It’s taken me a while to get around to answering these questions because I was disappointed by it. I thought it was ok, but nothing more.
2. Who was your favourite character and why?
Probably Mr D, even though he wasn't in it much. I think I shared his grumpy attitude towards the rest of the characters!
3. Did you think Riordan used well mythology in this book?
I didn't know the myths very well, so I have no idea really, but I do like the idea of taking mythological characters and putting them in the modern world.
4. If you were demigod, who would you like as a Greek god parent?
I had to do some research so I could answer this. I'll go for Hermes, because he's the god of travel, language and writing and no one has chosen him yet.
5. Do you plan on continuing the series?
I bought the next one in a charity shop just before I started on this one, but it'll probably take a prompt in a future challenge to motivate me to read it.
6. Answer the question posed by the person above you! Would you stay at Camp Halfblood or go to regular school?
Camp Halfblood - there's no way I'd choose to go back to school! I would've thought it was the better choice for Percy too, since he keeps getting kicked out of regular school.
My question: I think I'm in the minority in not loving this book, but even if you enjoyed it was there anything that you disliked or would have changed?

1. What did you think of the book?
I really liked this story. The book did a great job wrapping up the main plot, but still left you wanting more by leaving some mysteries unsolved.
2. Who was your favorite character and why?
My favorite character was Grover. He added comic relief, and I would love to learn about his search for Pan in the coming books.
3. Did you think Riordan used well mythology in this book?
I think he used them well especially for a children's book. There was enough written to teach children the stories about the gods without being too graphic or confusing.
4. If you were demigod, who would you like as a Greek god parent?
Themis. She was Zeus's second wife and stands for justice and morality. She would sit next to Zeus's throne and give him advice on law and rules of fate. She seems like a strong, smart woman.
5. Do you plan on continuing the series?
Yes, I would like to read the second book.
6. I think I'm in the minority in not loving this book, but even if you enjoyed it was there anything that you disliked or would have changed?
I did think that it was a little conflicting that the gods always knew what people were saying and doing on Earth, but they weren't paying attention when their lightening bolt and helm were stolen? I thought that part of the storytelling was shoddy
My question: Was there a particular god you wanted to learn more about after reading about them in this book?
Section of book: 51-100% (chapters 13-end)
