This is what I call commitment. Until 2020. My mind boggles thinking that far ahead. Epic indeed.

Only read book one so many years ago. All have been on my TBR, this is great, stretched out just enough not to go crazy. Another group is currently reading one per month.
This is great.
I especially like the plan because WoT isn't the highest on my priority list, but I can definitely get excited about diving in if I still have the chance to read other things alongside. I think it's going to be a lot of fun. :)

Like Niki said, WoT isn't the highest on my priority list too but since the TV series was just announced yesterday, maybe it's a good idea to at least read the first book now :)

I'm tempted to join this buddy read. It's my brother's favourite series. I don't have any buddy reads planned yet in the group for August so this just might work out.

lolll did you just say Brandon Sanderson "little known fantasy writer" Don...? Pretty sure he's one of the most famous fantasy writer right now and plus, I think it's awesome that he finished the series rather than leaving it hanging.
Of course I haven't read the series yet but contrary to your opinion, I actually only heard fantastic things when Sanderson took the helm and most likely, I'll be on that side, considering how much I love his works too.

Im talking Sanderson's position about back when I followed wheel of time(2004-2013). And to be fair to young idiot me...Stephen king, Neil Gaiman, Steven Erikson, George RR Martin and Robert Jordan were established names since the 80's and early 90's. Dark Tower, A song of ice and fire, Wheel of Time and Malazan were still being released. Mistborn's reputation was nowhere close to that Calibre yet.
The thing is Brandon Sanderson is the equivalent of this generation's Robert Jordan who before Wheel of Time was known primarily for Conan. Robert Jordan expanded upon the work of Robert E. Howard and built his name after that with wheel of Time. Sanderson expanded on the work of Robert Jordon before establishing himself as one of the greats, not with a single no series but with unrivaled consistency.(like Robert E. Howard did.)
Brandon and I share the same favorite writer, Robert Jordan. And I just didn't and still don't like his Wheel of Time books, they feel like Sanderson books not Jordan books. No writer could have done a better job finishing the series I admit that, hell the ending is considered by some to be perfect. But...they lacked the charisma of Jordan. The ending just left me feeling hollow and sad at Jordan's passing.
You won't understand the feeling. But Sanderson does. Read the series, you won't notice the shift. And for the love of God don't look at the WoT wikia, those assholes spoil major plot points for the last few books.

I understand the sadness, but wasn't the ending written by Jordan? I read some interviews from his wife and it seems the end was alreay written before his death. At his last weeks he started dictating a lot of details for his wife and his cousin, so they would have as much data as possible regarding all open plots.
Brandon worked with Jordan's two assistants for those books and had access to the all Jordan's personal notes.
At least that was my understanding from Harriet's (Jordan's wife and editor) interviews.
I don't know the end as this will be my first time reading it. I was just reading some interviews this week, as I was curious how the transition between the authors was handled. :)

Ahh so that's what you meant! I misunderstood your words man :p anyway, it will be awesome to start this series and i'll definitely stay away from that wikia. Thanks for letting me know

The means to the end were more important than the end for wheel of Time. I just didn't like them, they were good...amazing even. Some things admittedly better then what Jordan could have done. I just hated the ending because Bebop jazz turned into Paganini's fifth at a blazing fast tempo.
I'll say this again the ending is amazing. Sanderson didn't imitate Jordan. He writes it in a similar style to Elantris, the battle sequences from Stormlight Archive have yet to top his WoT battle sequences. All of you Sanderson fans will be thoroughly satisfied. You will hate some of Jordan's choices ...but the Sanderson's means to the ending left me feeling hollow. Some of Sanderson's choices to me were outright stupid, and he even stated some people won't be satisfied. He took a lot liberties with the notes. Satisfied many, disappointed...a few.
Talking about this is hard without spoiling stuff. Read the first book, you'll be hooked buy second chapter. And feel obligated to finish the series by the brilliant downright brilliant conclusion of book 2.

Looking forward to read it!

But for duels or more personal fights, however, I still think Stormlight takes the crown.

Yes, thank you, that is part of my library, the books surround the room. I have several other areas with books as well.
