or can anyone tell me a good book that the protagonist writes songs/sings etc? If the book states some of the lyrics, it would be amazing.
Thanks

I hope this helped =)

haven't read those books yet, but Eleanor & Park, Sway and All the bright places contain cute love stories

Thank you! I'll check those out :)

I really enjoy the Cormoran Strike series by Robert Galbraith (a.k.a J.K Rowling).
I'd also recommend The Diviners by Libba Bray. It's not strictly a mystery, but rather a combination of mystery, historical fiction and paranormal all in one and it's honestly phenomenal in my opinion :)

I love Phillipa Gregory books like: The Lady of the Rivers They are interesting and easy to read. If you are looking for a more fantasy read, I woud recommend the triology by Libbra Bray, because there it is set in medieval England and has a magic element added to it! A Great and Terrible Beauty

thank you so much :)

My Lady Jane's setting is under Henry VIII's reign, it's very cute

Check out the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness, It's historical fiction/Urban Fantasy and really enjoyable all the way through.

I know, but I want a book like it that doesn't have a lot of language and sexual themes

The book thief focuses more on family relationships.

thanks

History is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera

I've read Richard Morgan's A Land fit for Heroes series, and I'd like to say I'm completely on board with violence, bad language and sexual themes.

My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult made me cry ugly tears. The movie is also really good and sad.

The darkest part of the forest by Holly Black has a LGBT protagonist and it's a fantasy with a kickass heroin (the sister of the protagonist).
Also Juliet takes a breath is about self-discovery, family, feminism and racism, with a cute portorican girl.

i am princess x by cherie priest, fangirl by rainbow rowell, the disreputable history of frankie landeau banks by e lockhart...?? not totally sure what you mean by hipster but those are what come to mind! :)

Carry On by rainbow rowell has 2 lgbt main characters !! it does have some romance in it, but the romance is not the main focal point (also, it is meant to seem like a harry potter rip-off, fyi. if you wanna know why, read Fangirl, which is also amazing). carry on is soooo good, the characters are amazingly developed and i loved the plot & all the plot twists!!! it's one of my favs.
also, one/two of the protagonists in Six of Crows are lgbt and that book, in general, is also amaaaazzzzzinnnnggg.

On the Fence by Kasie West its pretty sweet. My life next door is one of my favorites. Adorkable by CookieO'Gorman is like super nice. All three the kind that leave you with this warm fuzzy feeling, and smiling like an idiot. Oh , just read this one too, When it happens by Sussane Colasanti, sweet too !

Those sound really really awesome, the both of them. Thanks!
Now to find gay detective fiction...

I really didn't enjoy Fangirl, so I'm unsure about Carry on. I kind of felt ripped off buying Fangirl, so the best I can do about Carry on is maybe borrow it. As for Six of Crows, I'll have to look into that. Thanks!

Waiting for you by Susane Colsanti, totally similar , yet a bit different, but the same vibe, definetly this one :) read it just last night and thought, yes , this is the one I should recommend !

Do you read French? You might enjoy Marc Lévy's Sept jours pour une éternité --> Sept Jours Pour Une Eternité - Première partie

This sounds like something I would also like! I loved the show Lucifer!

to lacy - it's very different from the show, but i would definitely recommend it. or i should say it's very different from the like 4 episodes of the show that i watched, because coming from the book to the show i just couldn't do it, but i think starting with the show and going to the book is always easier [since like 9 times out of 10 the book is better lol]

Oh yay, good for you! :) Translated books are a thing I have some issue with, personally. Like, if I want to read a book that I've seen in English, but I want to read it in French, either it's not been translated, or the translation is shoddy as fuck (it's like they translate it only for people fluent in French-from-France slang. There's other parts of the world speaking French, too...). And if I'm trying to recommend a French book to an English-language French, I can forget it, because they get translated in like Polish, Portuguese and Turkish, but not English for some reason. It's kind of offputting. Books translated into French are often so much more expensive than the original versions, too, and I'm poor, so I end up reading in English most of the time. Anyway.

A book with an LGBT protagonist that is fictional and absolutely kickass but not in the romance genre (there can be some romance, but I'm not looking for gay Harlequin or coming-out stories). Can be funny or sad or suspenseful, can be sci fi/fantasy or historical fiction or contemporary or thriller (please let it be a thriller/crime/mystery), anything.
I've read Richard Morgan's A Land fit for Heroes series, and I'd like to say I'm completely on board with violence, bad language and sexual themes.

Hey Andreas, The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto involves a musician protagonist, and had a lot of oldies songs or singers mentioned. The Catastrophic History of You and Me however, have song titles for each chapter, depends on the mood or happening.

I enjoyed the Angelfall trilogy a lot. It is about angels that are invading the earth because they believe this is a better place to live, but luckily not all angels think that, so it has part of a dystopian twist as well!

Omygosh, me too!! I've read Fallen from "Fallen" series (there are four books and a novella) and it opened my reading to paranormal romance and thus, it began. I was/ am still obsessed with any book that deals with angels. Then, I read Daughter of Smoke & Bone about a year later (trilogy), and my love for the fallen decreased as my perspective became wider, and I sorta hated the protagonist while I idolize the one from Daughter of Smoke & Bone, and basically worship Laini Taylor

For fantasy, try any books by Terry Pratchett and Walter Moers. They're fun but also pretty insightful.
Marina by Zafon is really misterious and enchanting, with mistery and a bit of science. Train To Budapest by Maraini is a wonderful novel about young love, loss and frienship during the years after WWII. It's really sad and wonderful. Two Boys Kissing is perfect. The prose flows smoothly and i was in love with every little story.

The Crossroads saga is pretty good! I've only read book one but it starts very promising. It's available for free on Kindle Unlimited.
