Ian Jarvis | 52 comments The Wicker Man - not a good read, but a good watch. Cinefantastique called it the Citizen Kane of horror movies. Christopher Lee considered it his best work and the best British horror film of all time. God alone knows what he said about the Nicolas Cage remake. If you’re a fan, you can visit the Scottish locations in a very easy tour. 45 years have passed and pretty much nothing has changed.

Jackie Munzar (haunted_nostril) | 109 comments indeed a fantastic film (and a stupendously hideous remake). I hear tell that there was were a load of full celluloid tins from the original filming that ended up buried under the M3, but I can't be sure of the validity of such claims. I also read an interview with Britt Ekland where she states that a stripper from Scotland was used as her body double for shots of her bum, and she was rather vexed because the stripper's bum was bigger than hers!

Ian Jarvis | 52 comments Hi Jackie. Yes, Britt was slightly pregnant at the time, although I can't imagine why that would matter for a rear shot. She and the director were fine with the topless front shots and the pregnancy isn't noticeable.

Erin (ems84) | 9060 comments I will have to check out this version of The Wicker Man. The only one I have seen was the American version starring Nicholas Cage which was pretty bad.

Ian Jarvis | 52 comments Oh, yes, Erin, you really should treat yourself. The old 1973 film is in a class of its own and has a jolly atmosphere that makes it all the more eerie. At times, it's like you're watching a musical which makes the ending far more horrific

Mixofsunandcloud | 538 comments Poor Nicholas Cage. He's basically a genre unto himself.

Ian Jarvis | 52 comments Yes, I remember when he was a decent actor in top films and now he seems to take anything for money - awful TV movie fodder. You only have to look at Left Behind. It's a 'disaster movie' about the rapture and it certainly has a religious feel in that it makes you groan 'Jesus' every three to four minutes.

message 11: by Erin (new)

Erin (ems84) | 9060 comments Yes, he had some really good movies back in the 90's and early 2000's but then he became the actor that would do any role and most of his later movies were not good at all. I had read he had some financial problems so that could explain it.

message 12: by Ian (new)

Ian Jarvis | 52 comments The financial problems possibly arose from him building that pyramid tomb of his in New Orleans, lol

You're being too kind!

JL Shioshita (uberproductions) | 149 comments That remake was one of the greatest comedies I ever saw. Was it not supposed to be? :)

Ian Jarvis | 52 comments If you like comedy and you like bees, you'll LOVE the Wicker Man

Ha, that could have done it.
