Sara Hey everyone!

If you'v read my message about the poll winner you probably noticed that the link didn't work. A large part of my message also didn't show up. Unfortunately, Goodreads only allows one group message per day for the moderators (weird, I know). So I wanted to post something here to clarify things.

The winner of the May poll for a book set during wartime is The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. It was extremely close and this book won by a single vote! The Book Thief received 142 votes (23.7%) and the runner up, All the Light We Cannot See had 141 votes (23.5%). Proof that every vote counts!

You can view all the poll results here: https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/1...

Also, I have opened up discussion threads for April's group read of We Were Liars.

Happy Reading!

Sara I think I'm going to start posting such information on a thread instead of sending a group-wide message. At least with a thread I can go in and edit if a mistake is made. Or maybe I'll post in a thread and then send a group message to let people know in case they don't check the website that often? Hmm...thinking, thinking...

The group message telling us to check would be helpful for me. I get alerts for that. Thanks!!!

Stacy | 31 comments Wow, a close one!! And I don't have to put a book on hold at the library for this one, as The Book Thief one of my very favorite books and I have a well-loved, many times read copy right next to my bed!! :)

Yeah, I'm thinking that's the best of both worlds. Posting in a thread is easier for me, but a quick notification by email would help make sure everyone is aware!

I'm one of the rare few that didn't really enjoy The Book Thief. Of course, the other top book on the poll, All the Light We Cannot See, was a DNF for me (which I am trying to start up again anyway). The two books I hadn't read yet were at the bottom of the poll :)

I may read through The Book Thief again for discussion and maybe I will like it better on the second read-through!

Stacy | 31 comments Eh, we can't all like the same things. Part of my love for The Book Thief comes from my first read: my husband and I were actually living in Germany at the time (he was in the US Army). So the German language and culture were all around me, and we were visiting a lot of WWII sites too. It's all kind of tied together in my head.

Same. I wanted to absolutely love it, because I'd heard such amazing things about it, but I didn't quite enjoy it as much as I expected. I wonder if I had built up so much hype in my head and then it fell apart. Don't get me wrong, I liked it well enough, but it wasn't in my all-time favorites list.

Shirley (stampartiste) The Book Thief was just a great book, and Markus Zusak is such a nice person. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the live interview that Goodreads did with him three years ago. It is well worth watching, if anyone wants to know the background story of The Book Thief or his thoughts on his book being made into a movie.

I will definitely look up the interview and watch it, thank you! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I thought it was very well-written. I especially loved the unique POV. I look forward to discussing it in the future in the relevant thread.

The link is nice but not necessary (the link was broken for me, too) - once I knew the results were posted, I just got on my computer, went to our group home page, clicked on "Polls" and looked at it. Only problem is that's hard to do on the app (GOODREADS FIX THAT PLEASE!!!) so maybe you can include the name of the winner in your email?
