What does Stevens care most deeply about? Can you articulate a world view for him?

I am on vacation so we will see how well I can articulate. I think Steven's view is rooted in tradition and the past.

Definitely his service. Outside that, there was not much else in his life. Even his days off were often spent in the company of others in his profession.
