John Seymour 4. Why does K. decide to return to the courtroom the following Sunday even though he hasn’t been summoned? What is the significance of the room’s physical dirtiness and the lascivious books he finds there? What conclusions does K. draw concerning the nature of the Court?

He decides to go as he believes it will show him in a good light if he turns up, he also believes that it could be a trick and even though he has not been summoned he could be needed.

The room and the books found there seem to imply that the court is corrupt and not concerned with justice at all.

He learns there is a system. From the other defendants he learns you can petition to hear evidence. I was struck by the multi-use space. One minute it is a home the next a courtroom.
