10. What makes K.’s execution so horrific?

I found the ending abrupt and rather shocking. I think this abrupt finality made it that much more horrific. Also, we never find out what crime had supposedly committed.

The fact that we and even K have no idea why he is being executed, and also the fact that there appears to have been no defence and no justice served.

What also shocked me was that others appear to spend years in the legal system while K only has 1 year.

I agree this was an abrupt ending. I thought he was being put in jail. The way he was executed was horrific, it seemed personal. It would have been much easier to shoot him but this was a multi-person event.
